Crystal Palace could lose Jean-Philippe Mateta as AC Milan and Arsenal step up transfer interest

Palace open to Mateta offers

After lifting the first trophy in their 119-year history back in May, Crystal Palace still appear destined to fight off interest in their standout performers.

With Marc Guehi already expected to depart this summer, reports now suggest that fellow Eagle Jean-Philippe Mateta could also be heading for the exit.

Transfer News Blitz writer Luke Maddison breaks down the latest speculation surrounding the French international – and where he could end up next.

Why Would Palace Sell?

Since joining the club permanently on deadline day in 2022, Mateta has grown into one of the Premier League’s most reliable goal scorers, netting 39 league goals and becoming the focal point of Palace’s attack.

The 28-year-old played a crucial role in the club’s historic FA Cup triumph and then led the line again as Palace lifted the Community Shield at the start of the current campaign.

His excellent domestic form earned him a first senior call-up for France’s World Cup qualifiers – further proof of his rising reputation.

So why even consider a sale?

The answer is contract uncertainty. Despite Mateta being tied down until 2027, talks over an extension have reportedly stalled. Palace are determined to avoid a repeat of the Marc Guehi situation, where hesitation over a new contract risks diminishing the player’s value.

If no breakthrough is reached, chairman Steve Parish may be forced to entertain offers rather than risk losing a major asset for a reduced fee.

Which Clubs Are Interested?

Unsurprisingly, Mateta’s form has attracted a lot of attention across Europe.

The biggest name in the chase is AC Milan, who are believed to view the Palace striker as a potential replacement for Santiago Gimenez.

From Selhurst Park to San Siro, reports indicate Mateta is increasingly keen on the move.

In the Premier League, Arsenal have stepped up their interest, with £55m summer signing Viktor Gyökeres struggling to deliver, scoring just four league goals so far.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are also monitoring the situation. Despite their already stacked attack, the Reds are reportedly open to strengthening further if the right opportunity arises.
