Sheffield United hope to sign former England midfielder Kalvin Phillips on a six-month loan from Manchester City.
Phillips, who joined Pep Guardiola’s side in 2022, could be playing his football at Bramall Lane until the end of the season.
Sheffield United currently sit 17th in the Championship table, just seven points away from Blackburn Rovers in the relegation zone.
Phillips has struggled to make a name for himself in the Man City squad, and this would be his third loan since his big-money move from Leeds United.
Here, Transfer News Blitz writer Emily Clogg takes a look at the deal and what it could mean for Phillips’ future.

WHAT HE CAN BRING
When Kalvin Phillips joined Manchester City, he was thought of as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.
So much so that Man City splashed £45m for his signature.
He made the move from Leeds United, where he featured 214 times and became a cult hero.
Phillips thrived at EURO 2020, starting in every single game as England made it all the way to the final.
This kind of talent and ability doesn’t disappear overnight.
Phillips has been on the search for the right environment to reignite his career.
He has previously spent loan spells at both West Ham and Ipswich Town, but neither saw him reach his previous heights.
Blades manager Chris Wilder would be hoping Phillips could provide some stability and control in the middle of the park.
This would be a straight loan deal and therefore would not involve a buy option or obligation for Sheffield United.
If the 3o-year-old does join and impress, they would have to re-enter negotiations with Manchester City to make the move permanent.
