Manchester United handed fresh hope in pursuit of Real Madrid star Aurelien Tchouameni

Manchester United in pursuit of Real Madrid's Aurelien Tchouameni

Manchester United have reportedly been given renewed hope in their pursuit of Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, with fresh reports suggesting the Spanish giants could consider selling the France international this summer.

Tchouameni has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent months, with the midfielder understood to be one of United’s dream transfer targets as they continue their squad rebuild ahead of the new season.

Real Madrid considering midfield sale

According to reports, Real Madrid may now be open to cashing in on the 26-year-old if the right offer arrives.

There are claims Madrid could be forced to sell a midfielder to add Portugal international Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United to Jose Mourinho’s squad following the Portuguese coach’s return to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Mourinho was officially reappointed as Real Madrid, as announced on June 11, after agreeing on a three-year contract.

While Eduardo Camavinga and Dani Ceballos had previously been mentioned as potential departures, Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo has now suggested Tchouameni is also among the players who could be sacrificed.

The former Monaco star remains under contract until 2028 and is still regarded as one of Europe’s top defensive midfielders.

However, the report states that he continues to attract strong interest from the Premier League, with Manchester United leading the race for his signature.

United’s long-standing interest

United’s admiration for Tchouameni is no secret. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently described the Frenchman as a “dream target” for the club, with the Red Devils viewing him as an ideal addition to strengthen their midfield.

The club reportedly believe his experience at the highest level and winning mentality would make him a perfect fit for their long-term project.

There have already been reports suggesting Manchester United made an offer worth around £69 million earlier in the transfer window, although Real Madrid were reluctant to negotiate at the time.

Club president Florentino Perez also publicly insisted that he expected Tchouameni to remain in Spain.

Opportunity for Manchester United?

Despite those comments, the latest developments indicate Madrid’s stance may not be completely fixed if a significant bid is submitted.

Any deal would still be far from straightforward.

Tchouameni commands a substantial salary, while Real Madrid would likely demand a sizeable transfer fee for a player who remains an important part of their squad.

However, with Mourinho reshaping the team and Madrid considering their options in midfield, Manchester United may now believe they have a genuine opportunity to land one of their top summer targets.
