Arsenal news: Four strikers Mikel Arteta could bring in to bolster Premier League title challenge
Arsenal have endured a tough start to their Premier League campaign, with the Gunners currently nine points behind league leaders Liverpool.
Despite this, the North Londoners have scored a similar number of goals to Arne Slot’s side and second-placed Manchester City.
However, the lack of an out-and-out goal scorer compared to their league rivals is clear.
Erling Haaland leads the goal-scoring chart with 12 goals, with Mohamed Salah following closely behind, scoring 10.
On the other hand, Arsenal’s top scorers, Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz, have only scored four times in the league.
Transfer News Blitz’s writer Edward Moss looks at four forwards who could become the Gunners’ new talisman.
Alexander Isak, Newcastle United
Alexander Isak has been linked with a host of top European clubs, and with Newcastle United’s PSR (Profit and Sustainability Rules) issues, they could be forced to cash in.
The Magpies sold Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh for £65million, which eased their worries, but a big offer for Isak would go a long way.
Arsenal are more than familiar with the big Swedish forward, who scored for Eddie Howe’s men as the Gunners fell to a 1-0 defeat at St James’ Park earlier this season.
However, a price tag of £115million would more than likely be a huge stumbling block between the two clubs.
Evan Ferguson, Brighton
Evan Ferguson burst onto the scene for Brighton a couple of years ago, but a serious ankle injury last season kept him out for six months and stunted his progress.
As reported by the Telegraph, the Seagulls have made the Irishman available for loan this January, with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Celtic and Rangers all interested.
Whilst a loan move may not be what the Gunners are after, it could be ideal for both player and club and lead to a permanent deal in the summer.
Bryan Mbeumo, Brentford
Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo has been electric this season, bagging eight goals in the Premier League for the Bees and attracting interest from Arsenal and Liverpool.
The Cameroonian can play on the right wing and through the middle, offering a versatile and Premier League proven option for Arteta.
Looking at the success of Leandro Trossard’s January move to Arsenal a few years ago, a move for Mbeumo could be a masterstroke.
Thomas Frank has set an asking price of £60million, which would make the 25-year-old forward a viable option.
Mateo Retegui, Atalanta
As per Italian outlet CalcioMercato, Arteta & co have been keeping tabs on Atalanta and Italy striker Mateo Retegui.
The 25-year-old has been on fire for La Dea this season, bagging 14 goals in all competitions for the club.
Retegui completed 70 minutes against the Gunners in the Champions League earlier this season, with David Raya denying the Italian of a goal from the penalty spot.
Atalanta will be reluctant to let their main man leave, as he only joined the club from fellow Serie A Side Genoa for £22million in the summer, meaning a January move looks highly unlikely.
