Everton news: David Moyes targeting Evan Ferguson and Taiwo Awoniyi as injuries begin to mount at Goodison Park
David Moyes has led a revival since returning to Everton, with two wins in his first three Premier League matches.
After a narrow defeat to Aston Villa on the Scotsman’s return to Goodison Park, the Toffees defeated Tottenham Hotspur 3-2, before beating Brighton & Hove Albion 1-0 away from home.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin netted only his third Premier League goal of the season against Spurs, before coming off with an apparent hamstring injury eight minutes into Everton’s clash with Brighton at the Amex.
Midfielder Orel Mangala is also expected to be sidelined for a lengthy period, but the extent of both injuries are unknown.
Moyes’ superb start to life back at the Merseyside club leaves them in 16th place, seven points off the relegation places - but with a lack of fit strikers in their squad - the 61-year-old craves a goalscoring striker.
Forest forward available for switch
Nottingham Forest are flying in the Premier League, despite a recent 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Europe-chasing AFC Bournemouth, with Chris Wood’s 14 goals firing the Reds into third place.
Taiwo Awoniyi has been limited to appearances from the bench due to the prolific performances of Wood.
Tuttosport claims that Everton’s new owners, the Friedkin Group, are set to make a late swoop for the Nigerian.
Since the takeover, the evident issue of a lack of strikers has been highlighted by ongoing concerns.
On-loan striker Armando Broja has been sidelined with an injury and could be out for the rest of the season.
However, Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol has now suggested the Albania international will be remaining at Goodison Park, taking up a vital loan spot.
Beto, who is one of Everton’s only fit strikers, is also the subject of interest from Serie A side Torino.
The Italian publication believes Moyes has told the board that the Portuguese forward is not a part of his plans this season.
Out of favour Irish prospect made available for loan
Brighton forward Evan Ferguson has struggled for minutes as of late, as the club has reportedly made him available for loan.
Everton are believed to be one of the many clubs interested in the striker, according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein.
With just one goal in 12 league appearances, Fabian Hurzeler feels Ferguson needs more minutes to recapture the form he showed last season.
In an ideal world, Everton would most likely want to swap Broja’s loan deal for Ferguson.
But to bring the 23-year-old’s spell at the club to an end - The Guardian reports that the Toffees would have to pay out the remainder of Broja’s loan fee.
Moyes eyes move for fringe Chelsea pair
Chelsea’s Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Carney Chukwuemeka have also been discussed as potential replacements for Broja’s loan deal according to The Athletic.
As Mangala could be sidelined for a long time, Everton could look to the depths of Enzo Maresca’s squad as the solution.
Since both of the English midfielders have joined the club, appearances have been limited.
However, there has been some positive news for Toffees’ fans, as James Garner returned from injury at the weekend and Tim Iroegbunam is back in first-team training.
So moves for the Chelsea duo might be put on hold whilst Everton continues to push for the signature of a striker.
