Liverpool news: Trent Alexander-Arnold contract talks stall as Real Madrid ready to swoop

Liverpool have been on fire so far this season and continued their hot vein of form by thrashing West Ham United 5-0 on Sunday.

Goals from Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Diogo Jota put Arne Slot’s men six points clear at the top of the Premier League.

However, it was English full-back Alexander-Arnold who stole all the headlines after the Reds’ big win.

Six months to go

The 26-year-old only has six months remaining on his current Liverpool contract, making it increasingly unclear whether the defender will sign a new deal at Anfield.

Alexander-Arnold joined Liverpool’s academy in 2004 and has spent almost twenty years with the club.

The Merseyside outfit is reportedly looking to tie down their local star for the next five to six years with a lucrative new contract.

Heading to Madrid

Rumours of Alexander-Arnold moving to Real Madrid will just not go away, with Spanish outlet AS reporting that the right-back is on the verge of signing for the La Liga giants after ignoring offers to extend his current deal.

Los Blancos could sign the Englishman for free next summer, in a similar move to how they signed French megastar Kylian Mbappe six months ago.

Taking into consideration Alexander-Arnold’s age, he may only have one more big contract left in his career, so it could be a now-or-never situation for the defender.

Liverpool are seemingly preparing for the departure of the Liverpudlian, with Slot’s side reportedly looking at Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong and Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies as possible replacements.
