Man City news: Kevin de Bruyne’s future unclear as contract talks stall

Kevin De Bruyne could leave Manchester City at the end of the season.

Manchester City playmaker Kevin de Bruyne has confirmed it could be his last season at the club if contract talks do not resume.

The 33-year-old has spent the last 10 years at the Etihad Stadium, joining from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg for £45million in 2015.

The Belgian midfielder has six months left on his Man City contract and has endured a tough start to the season after suffering a hamstring muscle injury against Brentford in September.

Contract talks stall

Speaking at a press conference ahead of City’s Champions League clash with Dutch outfit Feyenoord, De Bruyne explained that contract talks had stalled whilst he worked towards full fitness.

“Obviously, when I started the season, I knew talks would happen, but then I had that thing [injury] against Brentford and put that to a side,” he said.

“I really want to be good, back on the pitch and be myself again. There is no rush.

“I don’t feel uncomfortable in my situation. I just want to play football, I am not really worried.

“Talks will come, if no talks come, then it will be my last year [at Man City].”

Saudi Arabia interest

Last summer, De Bruyne was heavily linked with a move away to Saudi Arabia, following the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and former Man City team-mate Riyad Marhez.

Whilst a move did not materialise at the time, several Saudi clubs will undoubtedly still be interested in the Belgium captain.

De Bryune revealed that “at his age, he had to be open to everything” in an interview with Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws last summer.

“You talk about unbelievable amounts [of money] in what may be the end of my career, sometimes you have to think about that,” he continued.

“If I play there [Saudi] for two years, I will be able to earn an incredible amount of money.”
