Man Utd news: Marcus Rashford’s camp meets with Barcelona ahead of potential LaLiga switch
Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford this January, with Barcelona reportedly favourite for his signature.
The 27-year-old has not played for the Red Devils since their 2-1 away victory against Czech side Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League in December.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Rashford’s camp had met with Barcelona director, Deco, to discuss the move.
Both Barca and Rashford are keen on the move, however, it is hinged on the potential exits of both Eric Garcia and Ansu Fati.
Why has Rashford not been involved?
After leaving both Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho out of the squad for the Manchester derby, newly appointed United boss, Ruben Amorim revealed his firm standards.
He said “I pay attention to everything, the way you eat, the way you put on your clothes to go to the game. Everything.
“I make my evaluation then I have to decide. I have a lot of players to choose.”
Amorim added: “No matter what, I am not going to put a player I do not believe is the best for the team,” after United’s recent 3-1 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion.
Despite scoring three league goals in five league games under Amorim, it appears the England international will not be part of the Portuguese’s plans moving forward.
How would Rashford fit at Barcelona?
Barcelona have been a relentless attacking force so far this season, being the leading scorers in both LaLiga and the Champions League.
A huge part of this is the attacking trio of Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and young starlet Lamine Yamal – who have scored 55 goals between them already this campaign.
Raphinha has mainly played off the left for the Catalan giants this season, however, has also featured in the no.10 position behind Lewandowski – which would leave the left flank available for Rashford to potentially slot in.
Barcelona manager, Hansi Flick, has an excellent track record of getting his attacking players to score goals – which would certainly make a move to Spain appealing for the English forward, as well as a very good chance of winning silverware this season.
