Sunderland news: Black Cats set to lose star midfielder Jobe Bellingham
Whilst his brother Jude Bellingham has been lighting it up for Real Madrid in Spain, Jobe Bellingham has been playing a starring role for Sunderland in the Championship.
Jobe, who also came through the ranks at Birmingham, left his boyhood club for Tyne and Wear and has since made 62 appearances, scoring nine goals and assisting twice in all competitions.
After an impressive run of form this season, Sunderland is now waiting for the inevitable to happen as The Athletic reports the midfielder is set for a big move in January.
Transfer News Blitz’s writer Harry Whitfield has the latest surrounding Bellingham’s future at the club.
History repeats itself
The Athletic has echoed reports that the 19-year-old is being looked at by Borrusia Dortmund, as Jobe could follow his brother Jude in moving abroad to Germany with the Bundesliga side.
The Madrid star made 132 appearances for Dortmund, scoring 24 goals and assisting 25 times winning the DFB Pokal in his first season.
Now, Dortmund is looking to bring in his younger brother and continue the Bellingham dynasty at the Signal Iduna Park.
Regis Le Bris’ side is reluctant to let their key player leave but The Athletic also stated that there is an ‘acceptance’ that a move could materialise due to the offer being ‘too good to turn down’.
Sunderland is winless in their last six games, drawing five in a row before an agonising defeat to Sheffield United last Friday in a top-of-the-table clash.
Weeks before, the Black Cats led the way at the top of the Championship but now they find themselves sinking down the order and out of the play-offs unless they make a return to form.
Hammers take interest
West Ham United are the other club reportedly interested in the services of Bellingham as the club could part ways with James Ward-Prowse after recalling him from his loan move to Nottingham Forest.
The midfielder, who joined last year for around £30m, has not impressed for Forest so far and has struggled to feature for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.
Ward-Prowse’s exit could open the door for a move for Bellingham at the London club, as Julien Lopetegui looks to turn the team’s fortunes around this season.
West Ham have languished in the bottom half of the Premier League table, residing in 14th place after their 5-2 loss to Arsenal.
But for Bellingham, the opportunity to play in the top division in England would be appealing.
