Former Chelsea and Everton midfielder Pat Nevin has stated that the Merseysiders should not spend £50million on a 30-year-old, injury-prone Jack Grealish.
Grealish has quickly become a fans’ favourite at Everton since his loan spell from Manchester City last August, scoring two goals and six assists so far this season.
The much-adored Scotland star has shared his comprehensive thoughts on the move in an exclusive interview with BestBettingSites.
Injury worries
Grealish has had a career thus far plagued with injuries, and despite a spellbinding start to his loan spell on Merseyside, he finds himself injured yet again.
The former Aston Villa favourite suffered an injury on January 19 and is expected to be out for the remainder of the season following foot surgery.
Speaking about Grealish’s value due to his injuries, Nevin said: “There’s no sell-on value.
“There probably isn’t any sell-on value at all for Jack if he stays for two or three years, particularly as he’s had a number of injuries.”

High price tag
Nevin suggested that Everton would be taking a huge gamble on the winger, as he said: “It’s brinkmanship.
“Everton would love him and they would absolutely take him, but that’s not going to be his value.
“He’s 30 now, the other side of his peak.”
Despite Man City acquiring Grealish for a record-breaking £100million fee in 2021, many fans would argue he hasn’t quite lived up to that price tag.
If a permanent deal were to happen, Man City would likely attempt to get as much of that £100million back they spent on Grealish, potentially causing doubts for Everton.
Reduced wages?
Part of the Treble-winning squad for Man City in 2023, Grealish is reportedly on wages of £300,000 per week, which would completely demolish the Toffees’ wage structure.
His contract is up in 2027, which would probably be taken into consideration, but after a transfer fee and a loan fee, Everton would certainly be breaking the bank for a huge gamble.
Speaking on the situation, Nevin said: “Who else can afford Jack’s wages?
“You would need to really be in love with Jack to afford those wages and go towards £50million.
“How many clubs are going to be able to do that now for a player of that age who has had injuries? It’s not many.”
