One of the biggest transfer rumours of the season has been that Cole Palmer could make the switch to Manchester United long before the end of his Chelsea contract.
In August 2024, Palmer signed a contract extension with the Blues, keeping him on until at least the summer of 2033.
Palmer to Man Utd transfer rumours
However, old ties to the city of Manchester have been fueling rumours over the years, and they’ve only been getting louder.
While Palmer went through the Manchester City academy ranks, he reportedly grew up supporting Manchester United, leading many to believe that a move back to Greater Manchester is in the cards.
Speaking to BestBettingSites, former Chelsea, Scotland and Everton midfielder Pat Nevin spoke on what it would take for the rumours to come into fruition:
“I don’t think it comes down to whether Chelsea would sell. They would. Would Manchester United want him? They probably would. Would the money be difficult? No, they would probably sort that out,” he said.
“Chelsea are a trading club. They bought Cole Palmer and they could sell him at a massive profit, and that’s what they do. The Chelsea fans would be absolutely gutted because they adore him, rightly so. There have been concerns about his consistency and his injuries.
“It actually just comes down to one thing. It doesn’t come down to the clubs, it comes down to him. Does Cole Palmer fancy playing for Manchester United? That’s it. Nobody knows except Cole Palmer.”
While Old Trafford has been going through troubled waters in recent years, interim head coach Michael Carrick seems to be keeping things steady.
Should he get the permanent job, Pat Nevin believes this could persuade Palmer to join the Red Devils, saying, “Would that be enough to tempt Cole? I wouldn’t be shocked.”

Will Enzo Fernandez move to La Liga?
Another Chelsea transfer rumour that Nevin addressed is another long-standing one. Enzo Fernandez has been linked to Real Madrid over the years, although no real moves have been made yet.
A clear complication would be the price tag, especially considering how much the Premier League club paid to bring him over from Benfica.
“Profit is going to be tough because of how much he cost. In reality, deals are deals, and if it’s a deal that suits Chelsea, it might be a temptation,” Nevin stated.
“He’s been a good player for Chelsea. Definitely a good player. His work rate has been great as well as his talent.
“But if Real Madrid want him, they usually get what they want. It’s rare to see a player at the right stage of his career turn down Real Madrid.
“That would be a tough one for Chelsea.”
However, just as with Palmer, Nevin believes that whether the 2022 World Cup winner makes the switch or not would be entirely up to him.
“Personally, I’d quite like him to stay. But like Cole, it will come down to him.”
