Barcelona appear ready to make a big decision on Marcus Rashford’s future this summer.
After joining the club on loan from Manchester United for the 2025/26 season, the 28-year-old has impressed enough that Barcelona are reportedly planning to trigger the clause that would make his stay permanent.
According to reports, the Catalan club’s technical team, led by sporting director Deco, have spent months weighing the options and now see signing Rashford as the most sensible step for their project.
Rashford has scored goals and provided assists regularly during his time in La Liga this season, helping the team in key matches and fitting well into Hansi Flick’s system.
Negotiations with Manchester United
The only real hurdle is the financial side of the deal. Barcelona hold an option to buy Rashford for around €30 million (£26 million), a fee agreed when the loan was arranged.
However, officials from the Spanish side are reportedly attempting to negotiate better terms before activating the clause.
Manchester United insist they will not lower the agreed price, meaning Barcelona must pay the full amount or risk Rashford returning to England.
Talks between clubs are ongoing, and Barcelona’s representatives were recently spotted meeting with Rashford’s agent.
These discussions have also covered contract terms between the player and Barcelona, with progress on agreeing personal terms said to be positive.

A decision looming this summer
The forward’s own feelings appear to favour a long-term stay in Spain. Rashford has settled well at Barcelona and publicly expressed his desire to continue with the club beyond his loan spell.
His improved form – with 10 goals and 13 assists – coupled with his enjoyment of life at the club, adds weight to the idea that he wants his future tied to Camp Nou rather than a return to Old Trafford.
As the season moves toward its conclusion, all signs point to a permanent transfer being triggered – provided Barcelona can agree on the fee and terms.
If the two clubs reach an agreement, Rashford could soon end his long chapter with Manchester United and begin a new one in Spain, offering fans a clear answer to one of European football’s latest transfer questions.
