Mohamed Salah has announced that he will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season, ending a nine-year chapter in which he became one of the club’s greatest ever players.
Liverpool have reached an agreement with the Egyptian to end his contract a year early, allowing Salah to leave the club on a free transfer this summer.
Salah is widely regarded as one of the all-time Premier League greats, and is Liverpool’s third-highest goalscorer of all time, having netted 255 times for the club.
The 33-year-old’s next destination is not yet known, but it is expected that many clubs from across the world will be extremely interested in his signature.

An Anfield legend
When Mo Salah joined Liverpool in 2017, nobody could predict the heights he was going to reach.
It wasn’t his first rodeo in the Premier League; he’d previously had a short spell at Chelsea.
Salah signed for £36.5m which, looking back on the player he became, was peanuts.
During his spell at the club, Salah spearheaded Liverpool to two Premier Leagues and a Champions League.
At the same time, he staked his claim as one of English football’s all-time greats.
Salah is a five-time winner of Liverpool’s Player of the Season award, and a 14-time winner of the PFA Player of the Month award, to name but a few accolades.
He has also broken record after record across his nine-year spell in the league.
The 33-year-old is the highest-scoring African player in Premier League history, and has the most goal involvements for a single club in the league.
It is sure to be a very emotional goodbye for Salah, who has grown an incredible connection with the Liverpool fans.
When one door closes, another one opens, and there are a number of different directions for him to take.
Here are the three most-likely destinations, according to Sky Bet.
Saudi Pro League – 8/11
The Saudi Pro League is currently in pole position for Mo Salah’s signature this summer.
The league already boasts a number of football’s biggest names, including Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema.
Multiple former teammates of Salah are also playing their football in Saudi Arabia right now.
Sadio Mane, who formed an unstoppable partnership with Salah at Liverpool, currently plays for Al-Nassr, alongside Ronaldo.
Other familiar faces for Salah include Al-Ittihad’s Fabinho, and Al Sadd’s Roberto Firmino.
Bringing the Egyptian to the Saudi Pro League would be a huge coup, and would see Salah instantly become one of the league’s biggest stars.
MLS – 15/8
Another popular destination for big-name stars reaching the twilight of their career, the MLS is a great option for Salah.
Perhaps the most likely club would be San Diego FC.
The club’s owner and chairman, Mohamed Mansour, is a British-Egyptian entrepreneur.
This Egyptian connection makes a link-up with Salah more likely.
San Diego FC was only formed in 2023, and has previously shown interest in signing Salah.
When the 33-year-old had a public falling-out with Liverpool manager Arne Slot in December 2025, many believed he was set to leave the club on bad terms in the January transfer window.
At this point, San Diego were interested, but Salah ultimately stayed a little while longer at the club.
Other MLS options include Chicago Fire, who previously showed interest in big-names such as Kevin De Bruyne and Neymar, and also Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami.
AS Roma – 10/1
Salah could instead opt for a return to a former club, and set the Serie A on fire once again.
The Egyptian scored 29 league goals for Roma in his two seasons at the club, the first of which was on loan from Chelsea.
Having won the club’s Player of the Season award during his first year, it was only right Roma tied him down on a permanent deal.
This year, Roma find themselves fighting for a top-four spot, and are currently just three points out.
If they can secure Champions League football for next season, a reunion might be more tempting for Salah.
He still has plenty to offer at the top level, and could be a great addition to Roma’s squad.
