Manchester City see £120m bid for Elliot Anderson rejected by Nottingham Forest

Forest reject Manchester City bid for Elliot Anderson

Manchester City’s pursuit of Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson has reportedly suffered another setback after the club’s second offer, worth up to £120 million, was rejected.

The Premier League champions have stepped up their efforts to sign the England international this summer and recently submitted an improved bid for the 23-year-old.

The proposal reportedly included an initial fee of £106m, with additional performance-related add-ons taking the total package to £120m.

Despite the significant offer, Forest remain unwilling to part ways with one of their most important players ahead of the new season.

Man City had already seen an opening bid turned down earlier this month and are expected to continue discussions with Forest as they look to reach an agreement.

Anderson could break English transfer record

Should a deal eventually be completed, Anderson would become the most expensive English player in football history. The current record is held by Declan Rice, who joined Arsenal from West Ham United in a £105m deal in 2023.

Anderson is understood to favour a move to the Etihad Stadium if he leaves Forest this summer. Personal terms are not believed to be an obstacle, with the midfielder open to joining Pep Guardiola’s side.

Manchester United had also shown interest in Anderson, but are now effectively out of the race.

Reports suggest United were unwilling to enter a bidding war and preferred to focus on players fully committed to moving to Old Trafford.

Man City have admired Anderson for some time and view him as an ideal addition to their midfield.

The club are looking to strengthen in that area following the departure of Bernardo Silva at the end of his contract.

Anderson starred for Forest last season

The former Newcastle United academy graduate has developed into one of the Premier League‘s most highly-rated midfielders since joining Forest in 2024.

Anderson played a key role during a challenging campaign for Forest last season.

Despite dealing with instability in the dugout and working under four different managers, the club managed to avoid relegation and also reached the Europa League semi-finals.

His performances throughout the season attracted attention from several top clubs, but Man City have emerged as the strongest contenders for his signature.

England midfielder focused on World Cup duty

Since arriving from Newcastle for £35m two years ago, Anderson has made 92 appearances for Forest and scored six goals.

His consistent displays have also earned him a place in the World Cup 2026 England squad.

The midfielder recently started England’s 3-0 victory over Costa Rica in their final warm-up match before the World Cup.

He is currently focused on international duty, although negotiations between the clubs are expected to continue while the tournament is underway.
