Robert Sanchez is set to leave Chelsea and join Serie A side Como on a season-long loan after the two clubs agreed to the Spanish goalkeeper’s move.
Como have secured a deal to sign Sanchez on loan after Chelsea made the 28-year-old available following the arrival of Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa.
The agreement comes after Como sent Noel Tornqvist to AC Monza on loan, leaving Cesc Fabregas needing another goalkeeper before the transfer deadline.
Sanchez is now expected to move to Italy and provide Como with an experienced option between the posts after falling down the goalkeeping pecking order at Stamford Bridge.
Noel Tornqvist’s Como exit
Noel Tornqvist joined Como from Mjallby AF in 2025, but the club immediately loaned him back to Sweden for the remainder of that campaign.
He returned to Como in January 2026 but did not make a Serie A appearance before his move to Monza. Tornqvist was an unused substitute in Como’s opening league fixture against Udinese this season.
French goalkeeper Jean Butez firmly established himself as Fabregas’ first-choice goalkeeper, leaving Tornqvist without regular playing time.
With Tornqvist now at Monza, Como turned to Sanchez before the transfer deadline to strengthen their goalkeeping options.
The deal is understood to be a loan containing an option to buy.

Sanchez leaves Chelsea after losing his starting spot
Sanchez had established himself as Alonso’s first-choice goalkeeper at Chelsea.
However, his performance was under scrutiny following distribution and questions over his goalkeeping during the opening-day victory against Fulham.
Chelsea moved swiftly in the market, wrapping up a £7.5 million deal for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.
Martinez went straight into the starting lineup for Chelsea’s 4-3 victory against Brighton and Hove Albion, while Sanchez was left out of the matchday squad.
The arrival of Martinez left Sanchez with a less clear route back into Chelsea’s starting XI despite still having a long-term contract with the club.

Robert Sanchez’s Como loan move gives him a fresh start
Sanchez will now have the opportunity to regain his form in Serie A rather than remain as Chelsea’s second-choice goalkeeper.
The move also gives Fabregas an experienced goalkeeper following Tornqvist’s departure.
For Chelsea, the loan gives Sanchez regular playing time while Martinez takes over as Xabi Alonso’s first-choice goalkeeper.
Sanchez is set to join Como on loan, with the transfer expected to be completed before the deadline.
