Arsenal news: Mikel Arteta and Nottingham Forest ready moves for Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Matheus Cunha
Wolverhampton Wanderers star Matheus Cunha could leave the Black Country club this January, with Premier League and European clubs keen on the Brazilian attacker.
Cunha had looked set to sign a new contract to stay at Molineux, however strong comments from Wolves manager Vitor Pereira after Wolves’ 3-1 defeat against Chelsea have left the door open for a January exit.
He said: “He’s a captain, he can be frustrated as he wants to win but everyone in the dressing room wants to win.
“I do not like his body language. I understand it now, I will not understand it next time.”
Premier League interest
According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal are one of the clubs showing interest in the Brazilian – but they are not the only Premier League side chasing his signature.
Nottingham Forest are ready to make an audacious club-record offer for the forward, as reported by Sky Sports.
The East Midlands club also offered to sign Brentford striker Yoane Wissa this window, but their bid was significantly below the Bees’ valuation, as per David Ornstein.
Wolves’ position is that Cunha is not for sale and would like the 25-year-old to sign a new deal, however, an offer in the region of £60million could tempt them into selling the player this January.
Why is Cunha so sought after?
Cunha has undoubtedly been Wolves’ standout performer this campaign, with 10 goals and four assists for the West Midlands side in 22 games this season – an impressive return given Wolves’ league position.
The Brazilian has scored 24 goals in 58 appearances since joining the club permanently from Spanish giants Atletico Madrid in July 2023, after an initial six-month loan spell.
His versatility would be a great asset to many sides as he is capable of operating off the left, as an attacking midfielder or as a centre forward.
Cunha’s age profile makes him a suitable long-term purchase whilst also having enough top-level experience and quality to come in and make an instant impact.
The Brazil international has created 11 big chances this season in the Premier League, the most for any player for a team in the bottom half of the table – highlighting his creative spark.
