Aston Villa news: Unai Emery ready to battle Liverpool and Manchester United for Ferran Torres
Aston Villa’s Champions League adventure is in full swing, with a trip to Paris awaiting Unai Emery & Co. in the quarter-finals.
On top of the Villans’ fine European form, the West Midlands club are in fine fettle domestically.
Villa sit just four points off the Champions League spots in the Premier League and have an FA Cup quarter-final against Preston North End to look forward to.
With high-calibre players such as Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio moving to Villa Park in January, it is clear that the club’s ambitions are sky-high.
Another Champions League star headed to Villa Park?
As reported by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Barcelona are ‘willing’ to sell Spanish forward Ferran Torres for around £30million in the summer.
The 25-year-old has mainly been limited to appearances from the bench this season but has still managed to put up 13 goals and 3 assists in 32 appearances.
Aston Villa are among the clubs interested in the Spaniard, however, face competition from fellow Premier League sides Liverpool and Manchester United.
How good is Ferran Torres?
Hugely versatile in attack, Torres can play down either flank or through the middle, something that Barça manager Hansi Flick has taken full advantage of this campaign.
The forward, who was part of Spain’s European Championship-winning squad in 2024, has been a superb servant for Barcelona, tallying 54 goal contributions since signing for the club in January 2022.
Prior to his move back to Spain, Torres spent 18 months at Manchester City, joining Pep Guardiola’s side from LaLiga outfit Valencia.
The Spanish international won two Premier League titles and a League Cup whilst in Manchester.
It was widely reported that Torres struggled to live away from his friends and family in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic during his time at City.
Undoubtedly talented, the multitalented forward would be a brilliant addition for Villa, especially if they can qualify for the Champions League again next season.
