Aston Villa news: Villa target former Spurs defender Juan Foyth after Loïc Badé deal falls through

Aston Villa saw a proposal for Sevilla defender Loïc Badé rejected after the player did not want to leave the LaLiga club.

Unai Emery will continue searching for another centre-half to replace Diego Carlos, and a forward to bolster Villa’s attacking options.

Transfer News Blitz writer Harrison Pearce has explored alternative transfer targets that the Villans could turn to this month.

Juan Foyth, Villarreal

Juan Foyth is well known to Emery, having played under the Spaniard for Villarreal, where the Argentine defender still plays to this day.

The 26-year-old was part of the squad that won the Europa League under the current Villa manager in 2021.

The Argentina international is a versatile player who can play in central defence and at right-back if needed.

Foyth won the World Cup a year later with Argentina, however, has not had the best of luck with injuries since.

The defender’s latest shoulder injury kept the centre-half out for 163 days, which meant he missed 23 games for Villarreal.

Over the last two seasons, Foyth has been restricted to only 16 appearances in all competitions, so the Argentine’s injury record could be a concern for Villa supporters.

However, a move to the West Midlands could be the fresh start that the former Tottenham Hotspur man needs, linking up with a familiar face in Emery.

After key injuries to centre-backs Pau Torres and Tyrone Mings during Villa’s clash with West Ham on Sunday, this leaves the West Midland’s club with only two natural options in that position.

Signing a central defender by deadline day will be an essential piece to the jigsaw for Emery’s team.

Matheus Cunha, Wolverhampton Wanderers

Matheus Cunha has been one of the best players in the Premier League this season, despite Wolverhampton Wanderers’ dreadful form.

The Brazilian forward has popped up with 15 goal contributions for Wolves so far this campaign.

The 25-year-old’s CV looks fantastic, having played for the likes of RB Leipzig and Atletico Madrid, however, he has truly flourished since joining the Black Country club in 2023.

Wolves would be in serious trouble without their captain, with Cunha becoming a clinical talisman for the club this season.

The attacker can play across the frontline, which could be beneficial to a club such as Aston Villa.

The Brazilian has registered 4.43 crosses per 90 minutes - a stark comparison to Jacob Ramsey, who has only managed 0.51 this season.

Cunha shares similar traits to Morgan Rogers, and could cost up to £70million this month.

Arsenal and Nottingham Forest seem to be the most interested parties according to reports, however, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are also keen.

Aston Villa have historically been great at pulling off unexpected signings, especially when the players are linked to traditional top-six clubs.

This signing could add another threat in front of goal and potentially be a long-term replacement for Jhon Duran after recent speculation has linked the Colombian with a move away from Villa Park.
