Bayern Munich news: Mathys Tel set to leave as Chelsea, Man Utd and other Premier League clubs circle
According to reports, Mathys Tel looks to have played his final minutes in a Bayern Munich shirt last night, as a plethora of Premier League clubs look to acquire him in the coming days.
With the 19-year-old available on both a permanent and temporary basis, Tel has a huge decision to make in the next 48 hours.
Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Aston Villa are all currently exploring deals for the France international.
Falling out of favour
Tel has all the fundamentals to be a world-class number nine, so why has it not worked out for him in his short career in Bavaria?
One of the obvious reasons for his lack of minutes is the inevitability of Harry Kane and his importance to the side as a proven world-class attacker.
However, the Frenchman contributed twelve Bundesliga goal contributions last year alongside Kane, so what has changed?
The departure of Thomas Tuchel and the arrival of ex-Burnley manager, Vincent Kompany, has led to a decrease in the the forward’s minutes.
Tel has been limited to just eight Bundesliga appearances so far this season, accumulating two starts.
It seems the right time for Tel to move on to play regular first-team minutes, which will be the ulterior motive for the striker as he decides upon his next club.
Comparisons to Mbappe and Benzema
Tel’s career has somewhat stagnated since his £17million pound move to Munich from Rennes, however, it is evident to see the raw talent that had once seen him being compared to some of his world-class compatriots.
Tel is a multi-talented number nine with an incredible eye for goal, however, his main strength lies in his pace and his ability to get in behind the defenders, like that of Real Madrid attacker, Kylian Mbappe.
The teenager is also capable of coming in off the left-hand side, a position he has developed more experience in recently due to Kompany’s persistence with Kane in the striker position.
In the Frenchman, clubs would be acquiring a player who can not only be a future star but someone who can also be impactful in the present.
