Coventry City news: Frank Lampard’s Sky Blues lead the race for Premier League veteran Jeffrey Schlupp
Blackburn Rovers and Coventry City have both identified Crystal Palace’s Jeffrey Schlupp as a target for the January transfer window.
Schlupp has made 280 appearances in the top flight of English football for Palace and Leicester City - where he won the Premier League back in 2016.
The Ghanaian international is an extremely versatile player, having played in every position on the left-hand side, everywhere in midfield and even occasionally featured up front.
Schlupp set to sign for the Sky Blues
However, Frank Lampard’s side are favourites to sign the 32-year-old with Rovers set to miss out.
This is according to a report by Alan Nixon via Patreon, who claims Coventry is offering a better deal to Schlupp with the option of a long-term extension at the end of the season.
Oliver Glasner has given Schlupp only 12 appearances off the bench so far this season in the Premier League.
So a step down to the Championship should provide more opportunities to start for Schlupp, as Lampard looks set to make his first signing in charge of Coventry.
Coventry flying under Frank Lampard
The Sky Blues travelled to Blackburn on Tuesday and came away with a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Ellis Simms and Brandon Thomas-Asante - who has been the subject of interest from John Eustace’s side as of late.
City moved up to 13th in the Championship table, seven points off the play-off positions as Lampard recorded his first back-to-back victory in the league since taking charge.
The 46-year-old was appointed manager at the West Midlands side after long-serving boss Mark Robins was sacked.
In his first 12 games in charge, Lampard has won five, drawn four and lost three in all competitions.
