Leeds Utd news: Daniel Farke lining up moves for Matt Targett and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Leeds United kept their place at the top of the Championship table after playing out a 0-0 draw against fellow promotion hopefuls Burnley.

The race for the automatic promotion spots remains wide open, with just five points separating the top four clubs.

Daniel Farke’s side have been noticeably quiet in the January transfer window, however, that could all be about to change as deadline day swiftly approaches.

Transfer News Blitz Content Editor, Edward Moss, explores who has been linked with a late move to Elland Road this month.

Matt Targett, Newcastle United

Matt Targett has missed 58 matches through injury for Newcastle United since joining the club for £15million from Aston Villa in 2022.

The left-back suffered from an eczema flare-up at the beginning of the Magpies’ current campaign, with the emergence of Lewis Hall keeping the 29-year-old out of the Newcastle team ever since.

Since the start of the season, the defender has made just two appearances for Eddie Howe’s side, with Newcastle reportedly ready to consider bids for the defender.

According to The Athletic, Leeds have enquired about the availability of the full-back and could make a move for Targett this month.

The Englishman is valued at just under £7million by Transfermarkt, meaning the Whites would have to fork out some serious cash for the out of favour defender.

Farke is reportedly in the market for a left-back, with Leeds also keen on Plymouth Argyle’s Bali Mumba.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Besiktas

Former England international, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, is supposedly also on Leeds’ radar this January.

As reported by the Sun, the Whites are lining up a surprise move for the midfielder, who has fallen out of favour at Turkish side Besiktas.

The 31-year-old has heaps of experience at the highest level, having spent most of his career with Arsenal and Liverpool, where the Englishman won four FA Cups, one Premier League title, and the Champions League, amongst other honours.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has a market value of £2million according to Transfermarkt, which could make a potential move more viable for Leeds.

The central midfielder has only made six appearances this season for Besiktas, so could jump at the opportunity of regular first-team football at a club that could be in the Premier League next season.
