Leeds Utd news: Wilfried Gnonto to Saudi Arabia, Patrick Bamford exit and Bali Mumba latest
After a narrow 1-0 victory against Harrogate Town in the FA Cup last weekend, Leeds United turn their attention back to the Championship this Sunday.
The Whites take on another Yorkshire-based side in Sheffield Wednesday as they look to defend their lead at the top of the table.
Off the pitch, Daniel Farke remains silent on the club’s activities in this window, insisting there are likely to be no incomings and very few outgoings this month.
However, that doesn’t stop the rumour mill as Transfer News Blitz’s writer Harry Whitfield provides the latest transfer news surrounding Leeds.
Potential Saudi move for Gnonto
After the likes of Crysencio Summerville, Archie Gray and Georginio Rutter all left the club in the summer, Wilfried Gnonto committed his future at Elland Road by extending his contract.
But at the start of the new year, Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke has claimed that the Italian forward is the subject of interest from several Saudi Pro League clubs.
Despite the interest in the 21-year-old, Leeds remains reluctant to sell the Italy international in January.
Manor Solomon and Daniel James have featured the most this season out wide for the Whites, but Farke still considers Gnonto a key player in the club’s promotion ambitions this season.
A move this month is unlikely unless a significant bid is to be made.
Eustace signals interest in Bamford
Patrick Bamford has struggled for minutes this season, often sidelined with injury or chained to the Leeds bench.
The 31-year-old is currently suffering from a hamstring injury that rules him out of action until at least the end of this month.
That has not stopped Blackburn Rovers boss John Eustace from expressing his interest in the English forward's services.
When asked about the rumours, Eustace told the Lancashire Telegraph: “You’d have to ask the club.
“He’s a player on a long list that we have looked at and we’ll have to see.
“Patrick is a very good player, I played with him at Derby, a long time ago when he started out.
“He’s a consistent performer at this level.”
Farke eyes Mumba reunion
Whilst the most likely outcome of Leeds’ transfer window looks set to include no incomings, one player has taken Farke’s interest.
Plymouth Argyle’s Bali Mumba played under Farke while with Norwich City.
The versatile defender has been a key player for the Pilgrims in the last three seasons, notching nine goals and 12 assists in 122 competitive fixtures for Argyle.
LeedsUnited.News reported that Leeds scouts watched his performance against Brentford in the FA Cup last Saturday.
However, it would have to be an offer too good to turn down for Farke to give the 49ers the green light to make a move for Mumba this window.
