Liverpool news: Champions League winner eyed by Reds as Arne Slot looks to overhaul his squad
Liverpool have defied all expectations under new boss Arne Slot, with the Merseyside club sat at the top of the Premier League and Champions League tables.
Following in the footsteps of legendary manager Jurgen Klopp, many tipped the Dutchman to struggle in his first season at Anfield, but the 46-year-old has hit the ground running.
The Reds have tasted defeat just once this season, being beaten 1-0 by Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.
Since joining Liverpool in July, Slot has not had much chance to put his stamp on his squad, with the Dutchman only able to bring in Federico Chiesa from Juventus and Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia, with the latter rejoining his former club on loan until next season.
The former Feyenoord boss is ready to bring in some fresh faces, and Transfer News Blitz’s writer Edward Moss looks into the players linked with a move to the red half of Merseyside.
Georgiy Sudakov, Shakhtar Donetsk
According to the Mirror, the Reds are set to go toe-to-toe with fellow Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur for the signature of Ukrainian midfielder Georgiy Sudakov.
The 22-year-old has impressed for Shakhtar Donetsk this season, scoring nine goals and contributing three assists from attacking midfield.
The Ukraine international has started all six of Shakhtar’s Champions League matches this season, where he has looked right at home amongst Europe’s elite.
With a market value of around £30million, as per Transfermarkt, Sudakov could prove to be a bargain if Liverpool decides to make a move for the midfielder.

Joao Pedro, Brighton & Hove Albion
Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez has endured a rocky start to his third campaign at Anfield, scoring just three goals in all competitions.
The Reds’ only other striker, Diogo Jota, has struggled with injuries as of late, which has prompted Slot to look into other options.
News from Portuguese outlet Universo Online suggests that Liverpool have made Brighton and Brazil striker Joao Pedro a top target for next summer.
Following a move from Championship side Watford, Pedro hit 20 goals in all competitions in his first season on the South Coast and already has seven goal contributions in the Seagulls’ current campaign.
If Slot gets his man next summer and can get Nunez back on top form, Liverpool could have a deadly strike force on their hands.
Alphonso Davies, Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich and Canada defender Alphonso Davies seems to be linked with every top club in Europe at the moment, but reports from the Athletic suggest that Liverpool are also interested in the 24-year-old.
The Reds could face stiff competition from Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester United for the Canadian, whose contract expires at the end of this season.
Any fee under £50million would be a bargain for Davies, taking into consideration his age and experience, with the defender already having five Bundesliga titles, two DFB-Pokals and a Champions League among the trophies under his belt.
It may be too good of an opportunity to pass up if Liverpool can sign the Bayern star for nothing, who would also offer current Reds left-back Andy Robertson some stiff competition.
Bayern Munich has not given up hope for keeping one of their key players though, as it is currently unknown whether Davies will sign a new deal with the Bavarians.
