Liverpool news: Newcastle’s Alexander Isak ‘very interested’ in a potential move to Anfield
Liverpool fans will be loving life as the Merseysiders sit seven points clear at the top of the Premier League, however, things could soon get even better for the Reds.
Newcastle and Sweden striker Alexander Isak has been on fire this season, bagging 19 goals and five assists in all competitions.
The 25-year-old is hot property, and according to TEAMtalk, Isak would be very interested in a move to Anfield, where he could play consistent Champions League football and compete for trophies.
The race for Alexander Isak’s signature
It seems as though Liverpool and Arsenal will go head-to-head next summer in an attempt to sign Isak.
The Gunners have also reportedly put the Swede at the top of their wishlist, however, Newcastle are not going to make it easy.
Arsenal and Liverpool will have to stump up over £120million if they want to tempt the Magpies into selling their star man.
There is a chance that Isak could well stay at St. James’ Park, with Eddie Howe ready to offer the Sweden international a new lucrative contract at the club.
Whether he stays or leaves, the race for Isak could be the battle of the summer transfer window.
Why do Liverpool need Alexander Isak?
With Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool future hung in the balance, the Reds could need a new talisman next season.
Diogo Jota has struggled for fitness this season, whilst Darwin Nunez has failed to impress, so a new centre forward may be on the top of Arne Slot’s shopping list.
The Dutchman is reportedly open to offers for Jota, and Nunez has attracted plenty of interest from Saudi Arabia, so the Merseyside club could easily raise the majority of Newcastle’s huge asking price for Isak.
Signing the Swede would be a huge statement of intent by Liverpool and may help to convince Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk to sign new deals at the club.
If the Reds can pull off the signing of Isak, they may well dominate English and European football for years to come.
