Man City news: Pep Guardiola targeting move for Real Madrid and France midfielder Eduardo Camavinga

Eduardo Camavinga has established himself as one of the most versatile players in world football, and with his playing time taking a hit at Real Madrid, it seems many top teams are circling overhead for the Frenchman’s signature.

According to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, reigning Premier League champions Manchester City are actively monitoring the midfielder ahead of a potential summer move.

The French international has yet to decide his Real Madrid future, but he will not be short of options if he decides to leave.

The Manchester City problem

Manchester City are currently languishing in fifth place in the Premier League, behind last season’s relegation survivors Nottingham Forest, as well as an injury-hit Arsenal and an emerging Chelsea.

With Rodri out injured, the Cityzens have struggled to fill the gap in the centre of their team, bringing in the likes of Nico Gonzalez from Porto for a reported £50million, and Ilkay Gundogan back from Barcelona for free in the summer.

But these players, alongside Mateo Kovacic, Bernardo Silva and Matheus Nunes, have ultimately failed to make do.

So, in light of this, Camavinga seems like the perfect option.

Why are Manchester City interested in Eduardo Camavinga?

The Frenchman is notoriously versatile, and since making the move from Rennes to Madrid in 2021, he has impressed in the relatively limited game time he has had.

Blighted by minor injuries through the years, he has racked up 171 appearances for the Spanish supergiants, amassing two Champions League titles and two La Liga titles in that time.

His impressive CV is worthy of the attention of any team on the planet, but his time as a full-back may stand out to City especially.

Real Madrid suffered several full-back injuries last season, and it meant the now 22-year-old was thrust into left-back, especially featuring in Champions League fixtures.

With Pep Guardiola’s City side evolving into a system involving the ‘inverted full-back’, this points to Camavinga being the perfect player.

Having performed at the highest level as both a full-back and central midfielder, he fits immaculately.

How much would Eduardo Camavinga cost?

According to Transfermarkt, the player is worth around £70million, but with his contract expiring in 2029, there is no rush for the Spaniards to offload him, meaning their actual asking price could reasonably hit the £100million mark.

Camavinga’s agency, CAA Stellar, did, however, play a part in the transfer of Omar Marmoush to the Mancunians, so a move for the Frenchman would certainly not be impossible to conceptualise.

Should Camavinga make the move from Madrid to Manchester, it would send a strong message throughout England that Guardiola’s side are back and ready to fight for the title.
