Man Utd news: Red Devils and Tottenham Hotspur top January target to be offered new contract at Premier League club
Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have had underwhelming starts to their Premier League campaigns this season.
United are currently in ninth after they sacked Erik ten Hag just over a month ago, whereas Spurs have been inconsistent in seventh.
Ruben Amorim and Ange Postecoglou will both be looking to get their respective club’s seasons back on track and could act in the January transfer window to do so.
However, they have been dealt a huge blow in their pursuit of one of the hottest players in the Premier League this season.
Brazilian Magic
Matheus Cunha has been flying for Wolverhampton Wanderers this season despite the club having only picked up a measly nine points from 13 games.
To nail home just how good the Brazilian has been, Wolves have scored 22 goals in the Premier League season, with Cunha being directly involved in 10 of those.
This comes off the back of the 25-year-old’s first full campaign in England last season, where he finished with 22 goal contributions.
Cunha initially joined the Black Country club on loan from Atletico Madrid in January 2023 before making the move permanent at the start of last season.
The forward has attracted plenty of interest from elsewhere with his dazzling performances in a poor Wolves side, with Man Utd and Spurs both heavily interested.
United and Tottenham warned off
With the club being pulled into the early stages of a relegation battle, Wolves do not want to lose their key man under any circumstances.
According to the Telegraph, the club are set to offer Cunha a lucrative new contract to try and tie him down.
Wolves boss Gary O’Neil has also ruled out the possibility of a January exit for the Brazilian, as per the Manchester Evening News.
Speaking in a pre-match press conference, he said: “Matheus [Cunha] won’t leave in January, definitely not… zero concern on my part.
“I want him to play as well as possible, and I want everyone in the world to want him.”
Cunha still has two-and-a-half years left on his current deal, so Wolves’ asking price for the Brazilian could be too much to make a January transfer viable for Man Utd and Spurs.
