Man Utd news: Ruben Amorim targets first signing in Red Devils rebuild

Manchester United have targeted Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies and PSG's Nuno Mendes as potential new signings.

Since Erik ten Hag was sacked, all eyes have been on Manchester United, and new manager Ruben Amorim is ready to make his mark on the club.

The former Sporting manager will still be learning about the squad he has inherited, but it appears that a new full-back is already on the top of his shopping list.

United’s first-choice left-back Luke Shaw has missed 86 games for club and country since the start of the 23/24 season, whereas Tyrell Malacia has only just recovered from a knee injury which has kept him sidelined for almost two years.

Nuno Mendes on Amorim’s radar

The Red Devils are keeping tabs on Paris Saint-Germain full-back Nuno Mendes, as per the Mail on Sunday.

Mendes could be tempted by a move to Old Trafford to link up with his former boss Amorim, who handed the 22-year-old his professional debut at Sporting.

Since his move to France, Mendes has suffered from multiple hamstring and muscle injuries, which could be a put-off for Man Utd, alongside a fee upwards of £45million that PSG would demand.

Alphonso Davies linked to Old Trafford

Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies seems to be linked with a move away from Bavaria in every transfer window, but according to the Express, he could be heading to Old Trafford.

The 24-year-old has just over six months left on his Bayern contract, so a move in the summer looks more realistic than one in January.

Spanish titans Real Madrid have also been heavily linked with the Canadian defender in recent years, so Amorim could face an uphill battle to convince Davies to pick Manchester over Madrid.

Alvaro Fernandes Carreras in fine form

In typical Manchester United fashion, the Red Devils have been linked with one of their former players, who they let go for peanuts… no, not Paul Pogba.

Alvaro Fernandes Carreras enjoyed loan spells at Preston North End, Granada and Benfica whilst at United, before the Portuguese giants made the move permanent this summer for £7million.

The 21-year-old has been in fine form this season, picking up two goals and two assists in 17 appearances from left-back, and would be a comparatively cheaper option for Man Utd.
