West Ham news: Graham Potter looking for new forward as Niclas Fullkrug sidelined for three months

Graham Potter tasted defeat in his first match as West Ham manager after Aston Villa came from behind to knock the Hammers out of the FA Cup.

Brazilian midfielder Lucas Paqueta gave the East Londoners an early lead, but second-half goals from Amadou Onana and Morgan Rodgers sealed a 2-1 victory for Unai Emery’s side.

Summer signing Niclas Füllkrug was forced off after 15 minutes, with Sky Sports Germany reporting that the striker will miss up to three months.

Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen are also currently sidelined for the foreseeable future, leaving Danny Ings as West Ham’s only fit striker, which could prompt the club to act this January.

Ready to raid Old Trafford

Ruben Amorim has made it no secret that he does not see a place for Marcus Rashford in his Manchester United side.

The 27-year-old last featured for the Red Devils in mid-December when he played 53 minutes against Czech outfit Viktoria Plzeñ in the Europa League.

The England international has been linked with practically every big side across Europe - most notably Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund.

West Ham are also set to enter the race for Rashford’s signature this month, as per TBR Football, with the Hammers interested in taking the forward on loan.

There is no doubt that the Man Utd forward would improve West Ham’s attacking options, however, the Englishman’s huge wages could be a massive sticking point.

Hammers want Seagull’s star

Another player who has seemingly been linked with every club under the sun, Brighton & Hove Albion’s Evan Ferguson has reportedly been made available for loan this January.

The 20-year-old burst onto the scene in the 2022/23 season with the Seagulls, and has scored 13 goals for the club in the Premier League since.

A recurring ankle injury has somewhat stunted the Irishman’s development, and Evans has struggled to break back into an overachieving Brighton side.

West Ham could be the ideal place for the Ireland international to recapture his old form, with the Hammers’ injury problems meaning the striker would get regular game time.

TBR Football reports that Evans is on Potter’s radar as a potential January signing.
