Arsenal preparing improved Bruno Guimaraes bid after opening offer rejected as Fabrizio Romano provides update

Newcastle's Bruno Guimaraes & Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta

Arsenal are reportedly preparing to return with an improved offer for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes after seeing an opening bid rejected.

The Gunners have been heavily linked with the Brazil international in recent days as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his midfield ahead of the new season, and fresh reports suggest the club are ready to test Newcastle’s resolve again.

According to reports, Arsenal‘s initial proposal for Guimaraes was turned down by Newcastle, but the Premier League champions have not been discouraged and are expected to submit a second bid.

The report claims Arsenal remain determined to land the 28-year-old, who has established himself as one of the Premier League’s standout midfielders since joining Newcastle from Lyon in January 2022.

Romano: Arsenal have made contact

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has also provided an update on the situation.

Romano reports that Arsenal have already held talks with Guimaraes’ representatives as they explore the conditions of a possible move.

However, he stressed that no agreement has been reached and negotiations with Newcastle remain at an early stage.

The Italian journalist added that Newcastle‘s stance has not changed, with the Magpies keen to keep hold of their captain despite growing interest from Arsenal.

Newcastle reluctant to sell

Newcastle are under no immediate pressure to cash in on Guimaraes and are expected to demand a substantial fee before considering any sale.

The midfielder remains one of Eddie Howe’s most influential players and enjoyed another impressive campaign.

Arsenal believe Guimaraes possesses the technical quality and leadership needed to take Arteta’s side to another level as they prepare to defend their Premier League crown and challenge again in Europe.

However, the Gunners’ reported initial bid was too low for Newcastle, shutting the door on the North London club.

Busy summer at the Emirates

Guimaraes is one of several midfielders Arsenal have assessed this summer, with sporting director Andrea Berta considering multiple options before deciding which deals to pursue.

Whether Arsenal approach with an improved offer that would be enough to change Newcastle’s position remains to be seen, but the club appear ready to continue pushing for one of their top midfield targets.

For now, discussions are ongoing, with Romano indicating that Arsenal’s interest is genuine, while Newcastle remain determined to keep one of the key figures behind their recent success.
