Arsenal agree deal for Christos Tzolis in record-breaking transfer

Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign Club Brugge winger Christos Tzolis in a transfer that will make history for both Greek football and the Belgian Pro League.

The Premier League champions are set to pay around £34 million for the 24-year-old, who is expected to replace Leandro Trossard after the Belgian completed a £17 million move to Besiktas.

The fee will make Tzolis the most expensive Greek player of all time. It will also become the highest transfer ever received by a Belgian club, surpassing the previous record set when Club Brugge sold Charles De Ketelaere to AC Milan.

Outstanding season with Club Brugge

Tzolis arrives after an outstanding spell with Club Brugge. Since joining the Belgian side in 2024, he has scored 43 goals and provided 45 assists in 108 appearances across all competitions.

Last season was particularly impressive, with the Greece international contributing 22 goals and 29 assists in 52 matches as Club Brugge won the Belgian league title.

His 51 goal involvements were only bettered by Bayern Munich duo Harry Kane (68) and Michael Olise (54) across world football.

He also impressed in the UEFA Champions League, where he scored twice and registered one assist.

Second chance in the Premier League

The move marks a return to English football for Tzolis, who previously struggled to make an impact at Norwich City.

The Canaries signed him from PAOK in 2021 for a then club-record fee of around £11 million.

However, he found first-team opportunities limited after Daniel Farke’s departure and later spent time on loan with FC Twente and Fortuna Dusseldorf before rebuilding his career in Belgium.

His first Premier League appearance came against Arsenal, and he now looks set to join Mikel Arteta’s side as they continue strengthening their squad ahead of the new campaign.

More attacking business expected

Tzolis’ arrival is not expected to affect Arsenal’s pursuit of other attacking targets. Reports suggest the Gunners remain interested in Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers, while other names have also been linked as Arteta looks to add more quality in the final third.

The deal is understood to be close to completion, with Arsenal expected to finalise the remaining formalities before officially unveiling their newest signing.

If completed as expected, Tzolis will return to the Premier League with far more experience and confidence than during his spell at Norwich, giving Arsenal another dangerous option as they prepare to defend their league title.
