Chelsea are reportedly exploring a surprise move for Jordan Henderson as Xabi Alonso looks to add leadership and experience to his squad ahead of the new Premier League season.
According to reports, the Blues are interested in signing the 36-year-old midfielder on a free transfer despite him only joining Brentford last summer.
Henderson is said to have a clause in his contract that would allow him to leave the Bees without a transfer fee, putting several Premier League clubs on alert.
Chelsea want more experience
Chelsea have spent heavily on young talent in recent transfer windows, but the club now appears eager to balance the squad with experienced players, with Brighton’s Danny Welbeck another one on their radar.
Henderson would bring plenty of pedigree to Stamford Bridge after captaining Liverpool to both the Premier League and Champions League titles.

Brentford stay relaxed over situation
Henderson only signed for Brentford on a free transfer after leaving Ajax in early 2024, agreeing a two-year deal with the west London club.
However, reports suggest Brentford would be willing to allow Henderson to leave on a free transfer if he decides to pursue a move elsewhere.
Chelsea are currently leading the race for his signature, although other Premier League clubs are also monitoring the situation.
No agreement has been reached yet for Henderson or Welbeck, and discussions remain at an early stage.
But if the transfers go through, the two would become the most unexpected Chelsea signings of the summer.
