Chelsea make Josh Acheampong stance clear amid Manchester United interest

Josh Acheampong & Xabi Alonso of Chelsea

Chelsea have reportedly made it clear that highly-rated defender Josh Acheampong is not for sale this summer despite growing interest from Manchester United and several other top European clubs.

According to recent reports, the 20-year-old academy graduate is viewed as a key part of Chelsea’s long-term plans, with new head coach Xabi Alonso already identifying him as an important player for the future.

Chelsea have rejected multiple approaches for the defender and remain determined to keep him at Stamford Bridge.

Acheampong has attracted attention following his impressive development over the past two seasons.

Comfortable at both right-back and centre-back, the England Under-21 international is regarded as one of the brightest young defensive talents in the country.

Manchester United among interested clubs

Manchester United are believed to be one of the clubs monitoring Acheampong’s situation, with the Red Devils looking to strengthen their defensive options ahead of the new season.

However, any hopes of securing a deal appear unlikely at this stage.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported that Chelsea have already turned down approaches for the youngster, while club officials consider him “untouchable” in the current transfer window.

Interest in Acheampong is not limited to Manchester United. Reports suggest that clubs including Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool, Crystal Palace, Manchester City, Arsenal and Newcastle have all made enquiries about the defender in recent months.

Despite that attention, Chelsea have shown no willingness to enter negotiations.

Xabi Alonso sees defender as key part of project

A major factor behind Chelsea’s decision is the arrival of Alonso.

The former Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen manager is said to be a huge admirer of Acheampong’s versatility, athleticism and ability in possession.

Reports indicate that Alonso believes the young defender is ideally suited to his tactical system and could become a cornerstone of Chelsea’s backline for years to come.

Chelsea’s hierarchy reportedly share that view and see the academy product as one of the club’s most valuable long-term assets.

The defender is under contract until 2029, further strengthening Chelsea’s position as they look to build around a young core under their new manager.

As interest continues to grow across Europe, Chelsea remain convinced that Acheampong can develop into a key first-team player and play a major role in Alonso’s plans for the future.
