Tottenham prepare for Brennan Johnson exit as Crystal Palace deal nears and Bundesliga target emerges

Tottenham Hotspur look set to undergo a change in their attacking ranks this January, with Brennan Johnson likely to leave the club after falling out of favour under manager Thomas Frank.

Spurs have agreed a transfer fee with Crystal Palace worth around £35 million, but Johnson has yet to decide on his next step.

Johnson, 24, scored the decisive goal in Tottenham’s Europa League final victory last season, ending a long wait for silverware at the club.

But this term, he has found opportunities hard to come by, starting only a handful of Premier League games as Frank preferred other wide options since the summer signing of Mohammed Kudus.

Tottenham’s willingness to sell Johnson this winter comes as they look to restructure their forward line.

Frank confirmed that Johnson remains part of his squad and could feature in the club’s New Year’s Day match, but acknowledged that January will be a busy month for transfers.

Palace aim to finalise deal amid interest from other clubs

Crystal Palace are leading the chase for the Wales international. They have a deal in place with Spurs and are hoping to persuade Johnson to move south of London, where he would be a key attacking player as Palace juggle domestic and Europa Conference League commitments.

Palace see Johnson as a critical boost as they chase goals and consistency.

It isn’t just Palace showing interest. Bournemouth and Aston Villa have also been linked with the winger, who could be viewed as a fit for teams seeking extra depth in wide positions.

Bournemouth, in particular, see Johnson as a possible replacement for Antoine Semenyo, who is closing in on a big-money move to Manchester City.

If Johnson chooses to leave, Spurs are already preparing for life without him. The club has identified RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande as a potential long-term target, although his reported €100m valuation could make any transfer challenging.

For Johnson, the coming days will be crucial. The Welsh winger must decide whether to stay and fight for his place at a Champions League club or to seek regular football elsewhere as the January transfer window opens.
