Wolves transfer news: Five players who could be poached away from Molineux

Joao Gomes

Following the confirmation of their relegation, Wolves will inevitably have a busy transfer window keeping hold of players who will be eager to continue playing top-flight football.

Following the confirmation of their relegation, Wolves will inevitably have a busy transfer window keeping hold of players who will be eager to continue playing top-flight football.

January’s business for the Old Gold had the look of a club resigned to relegation – prolific Championship striker Adam Armstrong was signed and Angel Gomes was brought in on loan from Marseille.

Jorgen Strand Larsen was offloaded to Crystal Palace, Jhon Arias to Palmeiras and Emmanuel Agbadou to Besiktas for around a combined £82million.

However, as agents make calls and players’ heads turn, who are the most likely to move on this summer?

Transfer News Blitz writer and Wolves fan Gabriel Mills gives his thoughts…

Joao Gomes

There was plenty of speculation around the Brazilian international’s future in January with heavy interest from Manchester United, Napoli and Atletico Madrid also held interest in the midfielder.

Since then, despite confirmation of relegation for Wolves, Joao Gomes comes out of this season as one of the few shining lights and a move feels inevitable for the 25-year-old.

While he can be limited in his passing range and effectiveness in the final third, Joao Gomes is a tenacious and tireless worker with the sixth-most tackles in the Premier League this season.

His ability to hold onto the ball in tight spaces, resist the press, and find a way out is another part of his game that will interest clubs who are in need of a combative central midfielder.

As for his move this summer?

Napoli and Atletico Madrid remain interested in Joao Gomes while Crystal Palace have emerged recently to join them.

If Adam Wharton were to be prised away from Selhurst Park, Gomes could be a perfect replacement for the Eagles.

Mateus Mane

A remarkable story in a disastrous season for Wolves, the rise of Mateus Mane has come out of absolutely nowhere.

The teenager’s first start came in December and he immediately caught the eye, owing to his bravery on the ball and forward-thinking style.

Mane scored his first goal in a 3-0 victory against West Ham, Wolves’ first league win of the season, before scoring the following week against Everton.

It didn’t take long for transfer stories to emerge of top clubs circling like sharks around the 18-year-old.

Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal are reportedly interested in acquiring the young star but an asking price from Wolves of £50million is offputting for those looking to sign him.

Ladislav Krejci

The Czech defender is captaining his country to the 2026 World Cup this summer – he scored in both the play-off semi-final and the final to send his nation to the tournament.

A World Cup captain playing in the Championship seems unlikely at best and rumours about a potential move to Leeds United have surfaced this week.

Wolves signed Krejci from Girona for an initial £6million loan fee, with a further £20million to be paid to the Spanish side.

The central defender, who can also slot into the midfield, has impressed at times this season but can’t be without any criticism as Wolves have shipped 61 goals this season.

However, Krejci is a very capable defender at the top level and a move to Leeds would make sense for both the player and the buying club.

The fee is a considerable one though – Wolves would reportedly need to receive at least what they paid for him, £26million.

Yerson Mosquera

Yerson Mosquera is a player who has had a rollercoaster time at Wolves since signing in 2021 for around £4.5million.

Injuries and loan spells have disrupted the Colombian from getting any consistent game time at Wolves prior to this season.

A defender with strength, pace and passion, there is no doubt of Mosquera’s ability but he still remains a raw talent who makes costly mistakes and has an inability to keep himself out of the referee’s book.

Mosquera has been booked 11 times in his 23 appearances but has shown plenty of signs of a player that could be a very effective Premier League defender.

It was reported earlier this week that a decision had been made about the player’s future and he would be sold this summer.

It is not clear on the destination yet. Mosquera enjoyed a successful six-month loan at Villarreal in 2023/24 so it is possible a team in La Liga could take a look at the Colombian.

Andre

Like Joao Gomes, Andre has hopes of making the Brazil squad for the 2026 World Cup despite playing for a poor Wolves side.

If Gomes is a gifted number eight, Andre is a dependable and equally gifted number six.

Signed from Fluminense in 2024 for £21million, Andre has impressed during his short time at Wolves and become a proven top flight player who keeps the game ticking from deep in midfield.

Liverpool were heavily linked to Andre during the summer he signed for Wolves – and it was reported that the interest was reignited in January.

Juventus were also said to have been looking at the Brazilian last summer – but Wolves held firm in their stance that Andre would stay in Wolverhampton.

Andre is absolutely capable of walking into a Premier League side and improving them, as well as many across Europe’s top leagues.
