Johanna Rytting Kaneryd leaves Chelsea for ol lyonnes

Johanna Rytting Kaneryd has completed a permanent move from Chelsea to French giants OL Lyonnes, bringing an end to a successful four-year spell with the Women’s Super League champions.

The Sweden international has signed a three-year contract with Lyon after making 139 appearances for the Blues since joining from BK Häcken in 2022.

During her time at Chelsea, she scored 17 goals, provided 26 assists and helped the club win seven major trophies.

Rytting Kaneryd enjoyed an immediate impact after arriving in west London, winning the Women’s Super League and FA Cup double in her first season.

She went on to establish herself as one of Chelsea’s most consistent attacking players, adding two more league titles, another FA Cup and two League Cups to her collection.

Chelsea confirmed the winger’s departure on Monday, July 6, and paid tribute to her contribution to the club.

“Johanna Rytting Kaneryd has left Chelsea to join French side Lyon on a permanent deal. Rytting Kaneryd spent four successful seasons with the Blues after arriving from BK Hacken in her native Sweden in 2022,” the club said in a statement.

“We would like to thank Johanna for her service and wish her all the best in the next chapter of her career.”

A memorable spell at Stamford Bridge

The 29-year-old made her Chelsea debut in September 2022 and scored her first goal for the club against Brighton the following year.

She reached several milestones during her time in England, including making her 50th Chelsea appearance in a Women’s Super League victory over Manchester United and recording 10 assists during the 2023/24 campaign.

Her final season at Chelsea ended with more silverware before she decided to take on a new challenge in France.

New chapter in France

OL Lyonnes confirmed Rytting Kaneryd‘s arrival on a contract that runs until 2029.

The move sees her join one of the most successful clubs in women’s football as Lyon continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.

The Swedish international will now look to add more trophies in France after enjoying one of the most successful periods of her club career at Chelsea.
