Manchester City have reached an agreement with Nottingham Forest to sign England midfielder Elliot Anderson in a club-record transfer worth £116 million.
The 23-year-old is currently away with England at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, but is expected to undergo a medical there before completing the move. Personal terms are not expected to be an issue.
City win race with record deal
The deal eclipses Man City’s previous transfer record, the £100 million they paid to sign Jack Grealish from Aston Villa in 2021.
It also represents a remarkable profit for Forest, who signed Anderson from Newcastle United for £35 million just two years ago, and will make him the most expensive British player in history.
City had seen two previous offers turned down by Forest earlier this summer, with the Midlands club standing firm over their valuation of one of their most influential players.
Negotiations have continued throughout the transfer window before the two clubs finally reached an agreement.
Anderson enjoyed an outstanding campaign for Forest, helping the club secure a seventh-place finish in the Premier League and reach the Europa League semi-finals.
His performances also earned him a regular place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad, and he has started both of the Three Lions‘ World Cup matches so far.
Manchester United were also credited with an interest in Anderson earlier in the window, but reports suggest the midfielder favoured a move to City, leaving Pep Guardiola’s former side in pole position throughout negotiations.
The transfer is expected to be one of the headline deals of the summer and marks another significant step in Man City’s squad rebuild following the departure of Bernardo Silva.
Anderson is expected to become the first major signing under incoming manager Enzo Maresca as the club prepares for a new era at the Etihad Stadium.

What it means for Forest
For Forest, the sale represents a huge financial boost, although replacing one of the Premier League’s standout midfielders will now become a priority before the new season begins.
Reports have already linked the club with Tottenham youngster Lucas Bergvall as a potential successor.
While Anderson’s focus remains on helping England at the World Cup, attention will soon turn to Manchester, where one of English football’s brightest young midfielders is set to begin the next chapter of his career in a record-breaking move.
