Arsenal news: Nico Williams and Leroy Sané top Mikel Arteta’s summer shopping list

As the Premier League season draws to a close, Arsenal are one of many teams readying plans for the summer transfer window.

The Gunners look set to finish as runners-up behind league leaders Liverpool, who hold a 12-point advantage over the North Londoners.

Arsenal are still in the Champions League, however, have a huge mountain to climb in the form of LaLiga giants Real Madrid if they are to progress to the semi-finals.

There is still plenty to play for at the Emirates Stadium this season, but Mikel Arteta already has eyes on massively investing in his squad over the summer.

Arsenal want Nico Williams

Arsenal are ready to step up their pursuit of Athletic Club’s Nico Williams amid fresh interest from Bundesliga side FC Bayern Munich.

The Gunners are reportedly in contact with the 22-year-old’s management team ahead of a potential summer switch to North London, according to Blid.

The Spanish international has a release clause in his contract and could cost anywhere between €60-80million – a bargain in today’s market.

Predominantly a left winger, the Spaniard has registered nine goals and seven assists in all competitions this season.

If Arsenal can persuade Williams to move to the Emirates Stadium it would be a huge statement of intent by Arteta & Co.

Leroy Sané on the Gunners’ radar

After Arsenal target Joshua Kimmich signed a new deal at Bayern Munich, the Gunners’ attention has shifted to another out-of-contract star at the Allianz Arena.

Leroy Sané, once of fellow Premier League side Manchester City, is yet to sign a new contract in Bavaria, with the German’s current deal set to expire in June.

With nine goals and four assists this campaign, Vincent Kompany’s side are likely to try and keep hold of the 29-year-old, but both Arsenal and Liverpool are waiting in the wings in case the forward decides to leave.

Able to play down either flank, Sané would be a great addition to both sides, as Arteta believes that the German international’s “speed and power” would fit perfectly into his team, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.

Lyon wonderkid Malick Fofana Premier League bound?

You would be forgiven for not recognising Malick Fofana’s name.

The 19-year-old joined French outfit Lyon for a little over €19.5million in January 2024 from KAA Gent, and has taken Ligue 1 by storm.

Since the Belgian arrived in France, he has made 56 appearances, scored 14 goals and set up a further five.

Fofana has caught the eye of Arsenal, but the Gunners could face competition from Liverpool, Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain.

As reported by Caught Offside, the Lyon winger would cost upwards of €50million in the summer, which could be a huge put-off for the North Londoners, who may opt for a more experienced option.
