Arsenal news: William Saliba drops huge hint on future amidst Real Madrid interest
Arsenal already have one foot in the Champions League quarter-finals after demolishing PSV 7-1 in Eindhoven last week.
The Gunners host the Eredivisie side at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday, with either Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid awaiting Mikel Arteta’s side in the next round.
With the Premier League title seemingly Liverpool’s to lose, the North Londoners will be hoping to go far in Europe’s pedigree competition.
Despite Arsenal’s disappointing domestic collapse, star defender William Saliba has dropped a hugely positive hint on his future.
Ready to commit to Arsenal?
It may be every Arsenal fan’s worst nightmare to imagine Real Madrid swooping in to steal their ‘Rolls Royce’ defender.
However, the North London faithful may not need to worry about that for too much longer.
Speaking in a pre-match press conference ahead of the Gunners’ second-leg clash with PSV, Saliba made it clear he wanted to extend his stay at the Emirates Stadium.
“I am really happy here at Arsenal,” he said, “I have two-and-a-half years left on my contract, and I want to continue here.
“I want to win big things with Arsenal.
“If you leave this club and you don’t win anything, then the fans will forget you. I want to win here.”
Despite the Frenchman pledging his loyalty to the North London club, the 23-year-old insisted he was in “no rush” to sign a new deal.
Saliba’s current deal in N5 expires in June 2027.
How important is Wiliam Saliba to Arsenal?
Since establishing himself in Arteta’s side, the France international has never really looked back, forming a rock-solid partnership with Gabriel Magalhães in central defence.
The centre-back has since gone on to make 121 appearances for the Gunners and has become a firm fan favourite.
Saliba’s speed and elegance on the ball perfectly complement Gabriel’s power and brute force.
The Frenchman has played an integral part in Arsenal going toe-to-toe with Manchester City and Liverpool over the last three years - and by the sounds of it, he could be at the heart of the Gunners’ defence for years to come.
