Celtic news: Concerns over Kyogo Furuhashi’s future at the Hoops mount, plus the latest Scottish Premiership news

With just under two weeks left of the January transfer window, clubs are scrambling to find players with deals being finalised left, right and centre.

Scottish Premiership sides are starting to look ahead towards cementing their position in the league or trying to catch back up to the Glasgow pair, who once again have snatched the top two spots in the table.

Celtic legend Kyogo Furuhashi is attracting interest from the MLS and Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney could be set to make a return to Scottish football for the Celts.

Here, Transfer News Blitz’s writer Sam Condy provides the latest updates for Celtic fans, as well as all of the recent incomings and outgoings for Rangers and Aberdeen so far this month.

Kyogo could go

It’s been a quiet window for Brendan Rodgers’ side so far as they have made no signings as of late - though the rumours are certainly flying.

Celtic are cruising at the top of the SPL with an outstanding 13-point lead over their Glaswegian rivals Rangers.

Tierney has long been linked to a move back to Glasgow but what always seemed optimistic is looking extremely close to fruition.

The 27-year-old has been struggling for game time, with only one Premier League appearance since returning to Arsenal from Real Sociedad in June.

Tierney was once a regular on the London side’s team sheet, however, injuries seem to have hampered his progress as of late.

Painstakingly for Hoops fans, Celtic standout Kyogo’s days at the club appear numbered.

The 30-year-old has cemented himself as an all-time club legend, being hailed as the ‘best since Henrik Larsson’ throughout his three-year tenure at the club.

MLS side Atlanta United have long shown interest in the Japanese star and any offer over £10 million may prove too big for the club to turn down.

Rangers bolster defence with Portuguese prospect

Similarly to their rivals, there hasn’t been much action on the blue side of Glasgow this window.

The Light Blues could be set to lose number nine Cyriel Dessers, with the target man having been made a top target of Cagliari.

Dessers has had a hit-or-miss season for the Gers, bagging only seven goals in 20 top-flight appearances.

Looking at the incomings, there has only been one arrival in January so far and that was Rafael Fernandes, who joined on loan from LOSC Lille for the remainder of the season - with an option to buy on completion of the loan.

The 22-year-old centre-back joined the French outfit last January but has yet to make a senior appearance for the club.

Fernandes has appeared for both the Portugal Under-18 and Under-20 sides.

Speaking on his new move, the Portuguese prospect appears excited ahead of his new venture in Scotland.

“I am very happy to be here, it was a club I wanted to come to since I heard about the interest, and I am really happy to finally be here.

“My first impressions have been really good, I met some of my colleagues, some of the staff and all of them made me comfortable to start this new challenge.”

Thelin aids injury crisis with defensive reinforcements

There’s been lots of movement for Aberdeen this winter.

After a flying start to the season, Jimmy Thelin’s side have begun to slow down with zero wins from their last five league games.

The Reds have dropped into fourth position, overtaken by both Rangers and Dundee United in recent weeks.

In a bid to bolster the squad, Latvian international Krister Tobers has sealed a move to the Dons in a deal reportedly worth £700k.

Tobers joins from Swiss side Grasshoppers as the centre-back looks to be a solution for Aberdeen's growing injury concerns amongst the back-line.

Thelin seems keen to strengthen the back four, also bringing in Alexander Jensen from Swedish side IF Brommapojkarna.

Jensen shone in the Swedish top tier, catching the eye of the Scottish giants for his versatile toolkit.

"He is one the highest performing players in Sweden so it's a bit of a coup for us to get him to Aberdeen," Jimmy Thelin stated, speaking on the move.

"He is a really versatile player so he will offer us flexibility across key areas of the pitch.”
