Chelsea news: Blues fight off Premier League interest to sign Geovany Quenda from Sporting

Chelsea cruised through to the Conference League quarter-finals on Thursday after a second-half Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall strike sealed a 3-1 aggregate win over FC Copenhagen.

The Blues will face Polish side Legia Warszawa in the next round of the competition.

Following their European triumph, Chelsea fans had some more great news to wake up to.

Chelsea sign Geovany Quenda

Widely reported by multiple media outlets, Chelsea have signed highly rated youngster Geovany Quenda.

The West Londoners have reportedly reached an agreement with Portuguese outfit Sporting for a deal worth upwards of £42million.

The 17-year-old will stay in Portugal next season before joining up with Enzo Maresca’s side in 2026.

As per Sky Sports, Quenda has signed a seven-year deal at Stamford Bridge and has already completed a medical with the club.

Chelsea have beaten some of Europe’s biggest names to sign the Portuguese U21 international, with ex-Sporting manager Ruben Amorim reportedly keen to bring his former player to Manchester United.

How good is Geovany Quenda?

Given the correlation between Quenda’s age and current ability, the Portuguese forward is regarded as one of the most promising players in European football.

One of Quenda’s key traits is his versatility, with the youngster able to play on either flank.

This season, the winger has made 43 appearances in all competitions for Sporting, tallying 10 goal contributions.

While Quenda may not currently be ready to break into the Chelsea first team, another season’s worth of regular football at Sporting will hugely aid his development.

It would be no surprise to see the Chelsea new boy tearing up the Premier League in a few years.
