Chelsea news: Blues trigger option to extend Guro Reiten’s contract
Chelsea have extended one of women’s football’s top talents, Guro Reiten, contract until 2026.
Transfer News Blitz writer Nicole Powell highlights Reiten's journey from her 2019 arrival to her pivotal role in Chelsea's dominance, including multiple Women's Super League titles and international accolades.
A key part of Chelsea’s success
Chelsea have triggered the option to extend Reiten's contract, securing the Norwegian winger's services until 2026.
Since her arrival from LSK Kvinner in 2019, Reiten has been instrumental in Chelsea's dominance in women's football.
During her tenure, the Norwegian has won five Women's Super League titles, three FA Cups, two League Cups, and a Community Shield as a Blue.
Reiten has made 177 appearances for the Blues and recently surpassed 50 goals, a milestone she achieved in Chelsea’s 3-1 win in their UEFA Champions League match against FC Twente.
The left winger is the third top goalscorer in the current squad and ranks fifth in Chelsea's all-time Women's Super League scorers, with 35 goals in 102 appearances.
A key part of Chelsea’s formidable attack alongside a fit Sam Kerr and Lauren James, Reiten primarily operates on the left flank, complementing Kerr’s role as the main striker and James’ versatility as a number 10 or winger.
However, with both Kerr and James currently sidelined by injuries, Reiten has taken on the responsibility of keeping Chelsea’s attack firing, working alongside less experienced players.

A decorated career and international presence
Reiten's individual accolades include the Norwegian Golden Ball in 2022 and selections to the PFA Team of the Year for the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons. She was also nominated for the prestigious Ballon d’Or.
This season, she earned the Women's Super League Player of the Month award for November and was shortlisted for The Best FIFA Women's XI.
On the international stage, Reiten has represented Norway in two European Championships and two World Cups, scoring 21 goals and nearing 100 appearances.
The winger has also captained the national team on several occasions.
Another key player secured for the future
Last summer, Chelsea announced an agreement with Kerr to extend her contract, while Aniek Nouwen's deal was also extended this week.
To the delight of Chelsea fans, Reiten has now followed suit.
Chelsea's decision to extend Reiten's contract reflects their commitment to maintaining a squad capable of sustained success.
This summer, several other key players are out of contract, including long-serving Sophie Ingle, captain Millie Bright, Erin Cuthbert, and goalkeeper Zecira Musovic.
Chelsea's proactive approach to securing key talents like Reiten shows their strategic planning for the future.
As the Blues continue to compete at the highest levels, retaining experienced and skilled players will be pivotal in their pursuit of further silverware.
