Everton news: Sean Dyche sacked by Toffees - David Moyes and Jose Mourinho both linked with job
Everton have parted ways with Sean Dyche ahead of the Toffees’ FA Cup tie against Peterborough.
The Merseyside club have only won three Premier League games this season and sits just above the relegation zone in 16th place.
Dyche’s sacking follows Everton’s recent takeover by the Friedkin Group in December.
Transfer News Blitz writer Edward Moss examines who is being tipped to take the reins at Goodison Park.
Jose Mourinho
In recent weeks ‘The Special One’ has been considered a favourite for the Everton job, as Dyche’s position became more and more uncertain.
Whilst the appointment of Jose Mourinho would certainly ruffle a few feathers, it looks extremely unlikely that the 61-year-old will leave Turkish side Fenerbaçhe for the blue half of Merseyside.
The Toffees’ new owners also have somewhat of an interesting history with Mourinho, sacking him from Italian outfit AS Roma, a club they also own.
David Moyes
Following his European triumph with West Ham United, David Moyes is currently out of work.
Of course, the Scotsman has a long history with Everton, successfully managing the club between 2002 and 2013.
It seems as though the Blues are looking to go in a different direction - especially with their move to the Everton Stadium next season.
However, there is no doubt that Moyes’ Premier League experience could be vital to a side battling relegation, so it would be no surprise to see the 61-year-old back in the Goodison Park dugout, even if it is only until the end of the current campaign.
Lee Carsley
England’s U21 manager Lee Carsley has also been linked with the Everton job, following a successful stint as interim boss for England’s senior squad.
The former midfielder is already well-endeared with the Everton faithful, as the 50-year-old made 198 appearances for the club as a player.
Carsley is still in the early stages of his managerial career, meaning the Toffees could be put off by his lack of experience.
This potential appointment would be a huge risk given Everton’s league position, but one that could pay off in the long run.
