Leeds Utd news: Kalvin Phillips in line for Elland Road reunion as Whites eye Premier League return

Leeds United fell to a disappointing 1-0 loss to Championship strugglers Portsmouth on Sunday, however, the Whites maintained their place at the top of the tree.

The Yorkshire club are without a win in March, although, remain the favourites to gain promotion back to the Premier League at the second time of asking.

With a return to the English top-flight on the cards, Leeds manager Daniel Farke is beginning to look ahead to the summer transfer window.

Kalvin Phillips linked with Leeds United return

According to The Sun, Kalvin Phillips could make a return to Elland Road in the summer.

Leeds have reportedly sent scouts to monitor the midfielder as Farke looks to build a squad capable of Premier League survival.

The 29-year-old made 234 appearances for the Whites in all competitions before leaving the club for Manchester City in a deal worth £42million just under three years ago.

Kalvin Phillips has struggled at Man City

It is safe to say that Phillips has endured a tough time since moving to the Etihad, having only made 31 appearances in a City shirt.

Once an England regular, forming a formidable midfield partnership with Declan Rice, things have gone downhill for the midfielder.

Branded overweight by Pep Guardiola upon his return from the 2022 World Cup - a comment the Spaniard has since apologised for - the Englishman has spent the last year-and-a-half out on loan.

West Ham United took a punt on the former England international in January 2024 but were left unimpressed by Phillips.

Premier League newboys Ipswich Town then signed the central midfielder on a season-long loan in the summer.

At the time of writing, Phillips has gone on to play 19 times in all competitions for the Tractor Boys, as Kieran McKenna’s side looks certain to face relegation back to the Championship.

The ex-Leeds man is expected to depart the Etihad in the summer, and a fairytale return to Elland Road could well be a possibility.
