EFL Championship betting tips: Caretaker Alan Sheehan favourite to land Swansea City job

Interim boss Alan Sheehan has impressed in his first few games in charge of Championship side Swansea City, and he looks set to be rewarded for his efforts.

Sheehan defeated fellow interim boss David Lowe, after taking charge following the departure of Luke Williams, with a 3-0 victory against Blackburn Rovers.

The 38-year-old previously took charge of the Swans after Michael Duff was sacked last season midway through the campaign.

A goalless draw against Preston North End was followed by last Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough, as Sheehan remains undefeated in his second spell in charge of the Welsh club.

With an announcement expected soon, Transfer News Blitz’s Deputy Content Editor Harry Whitfield takes you through the other potential candidates for the job, including a few outside chances.

Alan Sheehan

The former Leeds United, Leicester City and Luton Town defender is the favourite to be given the job permanently, according to the bookies.

Unbeaten in his first three games in charge, Sheehan has given the Swansea board a lot to think about.

Whilst it would be his first venture into full-time management, the recent performances suggest he has what it takes to lead the club forward, and the fans certainly agree.

Yet, I wouldn’t be placing a bet on the Irishman with his odds.

BEST ODDS: 1/5 (BetVictor)

Des Buckingham

Looking for his next gig in English football management, Swansea could opt to bring in the former Oxford United manager Des Buckingham.

Under his stewardship, the U’s gained promotion to the Championship via the playoffs after they defeated Bolton Wanderers at Wembley.

However, after a run of poor form, Buckingham was sacked by the club as they opted to bring in Gary Rowett.

Could the 40-year-old make a return to the second tier at the Swansea.com Stadium?

His odds are certainly worth a punt.

BEST ODDS: 16/1 (BetVictor)

Eric Ramsay

There is always an unknown contender in the running for a managerial gig, yet Eric Ramsay is high up on the bookies' favourites to become Swansea's manager.

The Former Manchester United and Chelsea coach currently manages MLS side Minnesota United FC.

But don’t go placing your bets on him, as Ramsay recently ruled himself out of the running in an interview with the Minnesota Star Tribune.

BEST ODDS: 16/1 (BetVictor)

Steven Gerrard

It wouldn’t be a next-manager odds piece if we didn’t include Steven Gerrard.

The Liverpool legend is always near the top of the bookies’ list to land a managerial gig in England.

His last coaching adventure ended after he parted ways with Al-Ettifaq at the end of January.

If you fancy the Swans to make a big-name appointment, Gerrard is your guy.

BEST ODDS: 20/1 (BetVictor)

Sadly he is a Leeds United fan, but we won’t hold that against him.
