Liverpool news: Arne Slot ready to splash £250m to bring Julían Alvarez and Alessandro Bastoni to Anfield

Liverpool were left to lick their Wembley wounds on Sunday, as Newcastle United won the Carabao Cup – the Magpies’ first major trophy in 70 years.

The Reds’ League Cup final loss followed a disappointing performance in the Champions League, in which Arne Slot’s side were dumped out of the competition by Paris Saint-Germain.

However, the Merseyside club still look on course to comfortably win the Premier League title, with second-place Arsenal 12 points behind the league leaders.

Keen to build on what has been a brilliant first season in the English top flight, Slot is ready to spend big this summer.

Anfield overhaul

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Liverpool are ready to break the bank to fund a huge overhaul of their squad in the summer.

Atlético Madrid’s Julián Alvarez, Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni, and RB Leipzig forward Xavi Simons are all top targets for the Reds.

Alvarez, who only left Manchester City last summer, would set the Merseysiders back €150million – a similar fee to that of Alexander Isak.

Italian centre-back Bastoni would cost upwards of €75million, but his performances this season have more than justified that valuation.

The 25-year-old has been at the heart of Inter’s defence as the Italian giants currently sit atop the Serie A table.

Dutch attacking midfielder Simons may be a more unrealistic target for Liverpool, as the 21-year-old only signed for RB Leipzig on a permanent deal in January, following an 18-month loan spell from PSG.

Darwin Nunez expected to leave Anfield

As per Fabrizio Romano via his YouTube channel, Darwin Nunez is expected to leave Merseyside this summer.

The Uruguayan has reportedly attracted interest from across Europe, however, Saudi Arabia is also said to be a possible destination for the striker.

Luis Díaz is also expected to move on this summer - the 28-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Manchester City last summer.

Liverpool ‘considering’ move for Alexander Isak

Isak is arguably the most sought-after player in world football at the moment.

Reportedly, the Swede is among the names Liverpool are considering making a summer move for, according to Romano.

However, the Reds are set to face fierce competition from fellow Premier League side Arsenal, who have made the 25-year-old their top target for the upcoming transfer window.

The Gunners have also been linked with RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Šeško.
