Newcastle Utd news: Magpies ready to battle Liverpool and Chelsea for AFC Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen

Newcastle United are gearing up for a summer move for AFC Bournemouth centre-back Dean Huijsen.

The Spain U21 international joined the Cherries from Serie A giants Juventus last July for a fee of £12.8million.

As part of the deal, the Italian outfit included a 10% sell-on clause.

Since moving to the South Coast, the 19-year-old has been a mainstay in Andoni Iraola’s defence, making 22 appearances in all competitions.

Newcastle United interest

As per Fabrizio Romano, the Magpies are “calling constantly about the situation of Huijsen”, with the central defender seemingly a key target for Eddie Howe.

Following the sale of Lloyd Kelly to Juventus in January, Newcastle have left themselves with several ageing options in central defence.

In fact, 25-year-old Sven Botman is the only senior centre-back under the age of 31.

Huijsen would be a great addition to the North East club, offering a quality option with bags of potential in the heart of defence.

However, the Magpies are not the only interested party…

The battle for Dean Huijsen

After his impressive start to life in the Premier League, Huijsen has attracted several huge admirers.

Chelsea and Bundesliga side Bayern Munich are reportedly monitoring the young defender closely, according to Romano.

The transfer guru also claimed that Liverpool were keen, with the Reds looking to bring in an “important central defender” in the summer.

Arsenal and Manchester United have also been linked with the Spaniard, however, their interest is not concrete.

It seems as though there is going to be a huge battle for the signature of Huijsen in the next six months.
