Marc Cucurella has openly admitted that he would love to see former Chelsea team-mate Enzo Fernandez join him at Real Madrid this summer, with speculation over the Argentine midfielder’s future continuing to gather pace.
The Spanish defender recently completed a move from Chelsea to the Santiago Bernabeu and has wasted little time in encouraging Real Madrid to pursue Fernandez, who has emerged as one of the club’s leading midfield targets.
Fernandez remains an important player for Chelsea, but reports have suggested that Real Madrid are exploring a deal for the Argentina international, even though the Blues are expected to demand a huge transfer fee.
‘I would be very happy’
Speaking to Radio MARCA, Cucurella made it clear that he would welcome the opportunity to reunite with his former teammate in the Spanish capital.
“He’s a great player and a friend of mine,” Cucurella said.
“He congratulated me on the signing. I hope it [a transfer] happens. I would be very happy.”
The left-back also reflected on the strong relationship the pair built during their time together at Stamford Bridge and admitted he is hoping Fernandez gets the chance to make the same move.
“We were very happy at Chelsea, and to have the opportunity to both sign for Real Madrid in the same summer – I hope he’s lucky and becomes a Real Madrid player.”
Cucurella’s comments are likely to add further fuel to the transfer rumours surrounding Fernandez, who has established himself as one of Chelsea’s key midfielders since arriving from Benfica in a British-record deal in 2023.

Chelsea’s valuation could be the problem
Real Madrid’s interest in the World Cup-winning midfielder is no secret, with reports suggesting discussions have already taken place with Fernandez’s representatives.
Personal terms are not believed to be a major obstacle if the Spanish giants decide to move forward with a formal offer.
The biggest challenge could be Chelsea’s valuation. Reports indicate that the Premier League club would demand well in excess of £100 million before considering a sale, meaning Real Madrid may need to raise funds before completing a deal.
Whether Cucurella’s reunion with Fernandez becomes reality remains to be seen, but it is a move that Cucurella is certainly hoping for.
