Manchester United open Crysencio Summerville talks as Marcus Rashford future clouds transfer plans

Crysencio Summerville, West Ham & Marcus Rashford, Man Utd

Manchester United have reportedly opened talks with West Ham over the signing of Crysencio Summerville, although any move for the Dutch winger is expected to depend on what happens with Marcus Rashford this summer.

According to reports, United have identified Summerville as one of their leading attacking targets after his impressive performances for both West Ham and the Netherlands at the FIFA World Cup 2026.

The 24-year-old enjoyed a strong campaign despite West Ham’s relegation from the Premier League and has emerged as a player United believe can strengthen the left side of their attack.

However, the Red Devils are unlikely to press ahead with a deal unless Rashford leaves Old Trafford on a permanent basis.

Early talks already underway

Reports claim United have already begun discussions with West Ham over a possible transfer, although negotiations remain at an early stage.

Summerville is believed to be valued at around £50 million after enhancing his reputation with several standout displays at the World Cup, where he contributed important goals and assists for the Netherlands.

United’s transfer budget remains tight as the club also looks to strengthen its midfield, meaning player sales will be crucial before further arrivals can be completed.

Rashford exit could unlock the deal

That places renewed focus on Rashford, whose future remains uncertain after Barcelona decided against making his loan move permanent.

The England international is expected to return to Manchester United for pre-season, but there is still uncertainty over whether he will remain at the club beyond the summer.

Interest has so far failed to develop into a permanent offer, with reports suggesting his wages have complicated negotiations.

United had initially hoped Rashford’s departure would free up both funds and space in the squad for a new winger, making Summerville one of their priority targets.

If Rashford stays, however, United may be forced to shelve their pursuit as resources are redirected elsewhere.

The club is also weighing up further midfield reinforcements following concerns over injuries and overall squad depth.

For now, Summerville is expected to report back to West Ham for pre-season, but United’s interest remains genuine.

Whether the move gathers momentum could ultimately depend less on negotiations with West Ham and more on Rashford’s ability to secure a permanent exit before the transfer window closes.
