Bayern Munich news: Arsenal and Liverpool dealt huge blow after Joshua Kimmich latest update

Premier League duo Arsenal and Liverpool have been dealt a huge blow in their pursuit of Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich.

With Thomas Partey set to depart the Emirates Stadium in the summer, Mikel Arteta is looking to overhaul the Gunners’ midfield.

The North Londoners are reportedly close to agreeing to a deal for Spanish midfielder Martín Zubimendi but are also keen on Kimmich, who could be available on a free transfer.

Liverpool are also interested in the Germany international, as Arne Slot looks to add to his midfield.

However, the 30-year-old could be set to stay at the Allianz Arena after all.

Joshua Kimmich ready to commit to FC Bayern

According to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, Kimmich has made it clear to Bayern’s Director of Sport Max Eberl that he is “very open” to extending his contract.

Speaking in the mixed zone after the Bundesliga club’s 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League, Kimmich stated that “the ball was not in his court” in regards to a new deal.

This comes after French titans Paris Saint-Germain reportedly made a written offer for the midfielder.

Fresh and potentially decisive talks are set to take place at Säbener Straße later today.

A loyal servant

Kimmich has spent almost 10 years at the Allianz Arena, winning everything there is to win.

The midfielder, who can also play as a right-back, has won eight Bundesliga titles and a Champions League title, among other accolades.

During his time in Bavaria, the German has made 427 appearances in all competitions for the club.

Looking at Kimmich’s age, he realistically has one more big contract left in his career.

Could the German veteran be ready for a new challenge, or will he commit his future to the current Bundesliga leaders?

Whilst it is highly unlikely that Liverpool will allow so many of their senior players to leave the club, Slot looks certain to finally make his mark on the squad 12 months after taking over.
