Liverpool news: Arne Slot plotting huge overhaul regardless of Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future

Liverpool have defied all expectations this season, with the Reds 13 points clear of Arsenal at the top of the Premier League.

Despite their success, Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Virgil van Dijk's futures have somewhat overshadowed the Merseysiders' campaign.

Real Madrid look to be a likely destination for Alexander-Arnold, whilst van Dijk appears set to stay at Liverpool.

Salah has hinted numerous times this season that he will leave the club at the end of his contract, however, the Egyptian’s future is still unclear.

According to Football Insider, Arne Slot is reportedly planning to sign a new right-back and central defender regardless of the contract outcomes of his current stars.

Who are Liverpool targeting?

Liverpool have been linked with several of Europe’s top upcoming centre-backs, and AFC Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen appears to be top of the list.

The 19-year-old has massively impressed on the South Coast this season, with the Reds expecting to face competition from Newcastle United and Chelsea for the Spaniard’s signature.

In what could turn out to be one of the bargains of the summer, Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich looks set to be available on a free transfer at the end of the season.

There is a strong possibility that the 30-year-old will stay in Germany, but Liverpool are said to be interested in Kimmich, as per Sky Sports.

Arsenal and LaLiga side Barcelona are also reportedly keen on a move for the German international, who can play as a right-back and in midfield.

Striker Alexander Isak has also been heavily linked with a move to Anfield in the summer.

Newcastle value their star man at over £120million, so the Reds will need to raise significant funds if they want to land their man.

Who could leave Liverpool?

On top of Salah, Alexander-Arnold and van Dijk, Luis Diaz also appears to be a likely summer departure.

Liverpool are open to offers for the Colombian, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes, with Atletico Madrid keen on a £58million move for the forward.

Federico Chiesa has been linked with a move back to Italy despite having only joined the club eight months ago.

Darwin Nunez could also leave, with the Uraguyan attracting interest from the Saudi Pro League, whilst Diogo Jota has been rumoured to be a target for Arsenal.

Whilst it is highly unlikely that Liverpool will allow so many of their senior players to leave the club, Slot looks certain to finally make his mark on the squad 12 months after taking over.
